A La Jolla lab is on the front lines of the fight against the Ebola Virus.

The outbreak in West Africa has killed at least 961 people and prompted the World Health Organization to declare an international public health emergency.

On the other side of the world from ground zero, researchers at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla are looking at how the Ebola virus attaches to parts of the body and how it multiplies and replicates.

Well, if nothing else, the number of dead is going down. Last I heard it was up around 2500.

Well, it’s always reassuring to know the FDA is keeping it’s foot on the release of drugs that might cure fatal diseases until after 20 years of development and testing to prove they are safe. (sarc)

Wasn’t our leading ebola researcher Steven Hatfill, the guy the government continually harassed mainly because of silly ass accusations by a leftwing activist who hated him because he was from the country formerly known as Rhodesia? Maybe if he hadn’t been the center of attention all that time we would have had a better response to ebola now.

That's a model of the Ebola Glyocprotein complex, which it codes for and covers itself with. These are the "claws" of the virus with which it attacks the target cells ( which she seems to be demonstrating, ) the "evil genius" of the thing, as I called it earlier:

Wow, great video. It’s good to see someone finally doing something constructive about this. Barry’s solution seems to be photo ops, golf and putting U.S. troops into a situation they should not be put into by sending them to Africa. These people are taking the bull by the horns. Bravo!

Apparently that’s how the existing drug works, it caps those claws the virus uses to attach itself so it can’t latch on. After that the body kills it off. At least that’s what I saw on Nova the other night.
