Police say Randle attempted to steal a tester bottle of Gucci Guilty Black cologne, worth $84, and Polo underwear worth $39.40.
FRISCO The father of Dallas Cowboys running back Joseph Randle says his son is innocent after being arrested for shoplifting at a Dillard's store in Frisco.
"My son is not a thief, okay? He was just trying to get his baby out of there because she was clowning pretty bad. All he was going to do is take the baby out and then he was going to come back and take care of his business," Mr. Randle said in a phone call with News 8 reporter Tanya Eiserer.
Joseph Randle was arrested Monday for shoplifting at Stone Briar Mall. Frisco police say he had a tester bottle of Gucci Guilty Black cologne, worth $84, and Polo underwear, worth $39.40, concealed when he tried to leave the store.
Randle was caught by loss prevention and charged with a Class B Misdemeanor of theft, ranging from $50 to $500. He was booked into the Frisco City Jail and has since posted bond.
His father, who declined to give his first name, told News 8 that everything has been blown out of proportion and his son is a Christian boy who had his child and her mother with him at the time.
"He said they wouldn't come and wait on me so I wanted to get them outside the door so she could try to calm her down and then come back. It's as simple as that," his father said.
According to the arrest report, a Dillard's employee told police she watched a suspect - later identified as Randle - on the store's video surveillance system make a purchase at the perfume counter then walk to the underwear section and place a package of underwear in the bag from his previous purchase before walking out to the parking lot without trying to pay.
There was no mention in the police report of a child with Randle.
A store security officer told police he stopped Randle outside the store and asked him to return, then they both waited for police to arrive. The store manager told officers Randle went with him to the loss prevention office, where they recovered a two-pack of Polo underwear and a "tester" bottle of Gucci Guilty Black cologne.
After an officer arrested Randle and began taking the Cowboys player to the Frisco jail for processing, Randle told police without prompting he "should have kept walking to his car if he knew he would be arrested" and that when he saw the security officer he thought, "Alright, y'all got me," according to the arrest report.
A second officer, who came to the scene and spoke to Randle in the loss prevention office, said he asked Randle what he stole and the running back responded "some underwear and a tester bottle of cologne," and said he didn't pay for it "because he did not want to take the time to do it."
Dillard's has declined to comment on the case, saying it is now a Frisco police matter.
Dallas Cowboys Head Coach Jason Garrett had no comment on the matter Tuesday.
Randle was drafted by the Cowboys in the fifth-round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma State. He signed a four-year deal with the team worth roughly $2.3 million in May 2013, according to media reports.
He was a good boy;
He was just misunderstood;
Society let him down;
My son is not [fill in the blank]
.... It is NEVER because the perp is a criminal, thug, etc. it is ALWAYS someone else's fault.
There must be a template somewhere that the perp's parents are given to select whomever's fault their kid is a criminal (and it is NEVER poor upbringing).
Use the Sandy Burger defense.
“He just was sitting at the table and papers fell in to his socks.”
OR.
My baby din do nuffin’
His excuse was “He couldn’t be bothered”.
In reality, they steal because they feel they are entitled to the goods. Sticking it to the store is just their revenge for being bothered to have to lower themselves to make a purchase.
The Cowboys were paying him a huge amount of money to not steal things and he couldn’t abide by that.
He was going back to school, supported his kids, aspiring rapper, bad friends, not his fault.
Ok, well he has his excuse, and he is a member of an officially recognized grievance group, so all is forgiven.
I bet he’s been coddled all his life because of being a star athlete.
A tester bottle of cologne? That’s a toughie to explain away.
I’m sure the race-baiting poverty pimps are super-disappointed he didn’t get shot! Better luck next time...
So long as it bees whitey’s stuff it bees OK.
“Steal it?? Why, what do you think I am - a thief??... I just TOOK it!...Pretty good, ain’t I?”

“I was just borrowing it.”

The interweb has a database that says no. Google 'NFL player arrests', there are several sources, USA Today has a good one.
Some teams seem to be better than others, but none what you would call intolerant.
If he only stole the tester bottle and not the underwear, he could have claimed, “How could I steal it...it’s free! I could have sprayed the whole bottle on myself in the store, and it wouldn’t be stealing.”
Oh yeah, there’s the other old standby:
“I forgot I had put that in my pocket.”
But it would be STINKING!.....................
Well, they wouldn’t wait on him, so it was obviously racism.
Maybe the clerk was a Seahawks fan......................
He was taking it out to test!......................
LOL!
