Woman’s home ‘stolen’ by squatter who moved in & filed a deed with NYC –

despite her family owning property since 1931
Imagine arriving at your own home and finding out a stranger is not only squatting there — he’s claiming the place for himself after he re-keyed ALL the locks to the house. AND even though you can prove the house isn’t his the courts drag their feet about evicting him because after all it is the guys residence– IN YOUR HOUSE! hat’s the nightmare that an elderly New York City woman is living, and now she is fighting to get back the house that she says an ex-con stole from her by filing a fraudulent deed and breaking in.

‘It just devastates me,’ Jennifer Merin told the New York Post. ‘The house was maintained basically as sanctuary to my family.’

Merin says that 49-year-old Darrell Beatty and his sons — Darrell Kash, 25, and DeShaun, 22 — have been living at the home in Queens since February. She says Beatty filed a bogus deed and moved into the house, which Merin wasn’t renting, then changed all the locks. She found out that the house that her grandparents, who immigrated from the Ukraine and Russia, bought in 1931 had been lifted back in May, when the water bill for the previously-empty home skyrocketed.

When Merin when to check, she found the locks had been changed and her 1992 Subaru Outback missing — along with most of her possessions. All of her family’s heirlooms — vintage furniture, photos, a classic television set — were piled in the garage like trash.

‘Everything from Chinese palace vases to my underwear,’ she told the Post.

Merin says that Beatty filed a deed transfer claiming that he bought the house in 2013 from a woman named ‘Edith Moore’ — who doesn’t seem to exist, according to public records.

‘I see them coming and going,’ a neighbor said of the Beatty trio to the Post. ‘I don’t think they talk to nobody in the neighborhood.’

The city’s Finance Department says the deed was indeed fraudulently transferred in 2013. A judge has approved an eviction for Beatty, but the order was stayed because the squatter says he is having health problems. Several reporters have attempted to confront Beatty outside his home, but he always refuses to comment. He only confirms his version of the story: that the house is his.

Shame on those men for taking over a house that isn’t theirs and SHAME on the court system for NOT evicting these criminals from the property IMMEDIATELY!

And yet if this poor woman was just one millisecond late with her prop tax payment, the city would not hesitate hitting her up with late fees and beginning the eviction process on HER. What an effing outrage.

Usually these types leave when bikers are summoned.

What is the use of paying taxes to a government when it is bikers reestablishing the law.

Isn’t calling someone an ex-con racist or something?

How these squatter situations go on longer than about 8 minutes boggles my mind.

Yup, call some bikers to negotiate return of the property.

A situation like this happened in New Port Richey FL A bunch of illegals moved into a house while the owner was dodging bullets in Afghanistan. While the Pasco Cty sheriff dept dragged their feet, a biker group made up of veterans rode into town. The squatters high tailed it out of there faster than Jeff Gordon on steroids, just as the bikers were getting ready to “take out the trash”.

If I found someone in my house, rekeyed or not, I’d eject them forcefully. Period. My house being “locked” wouldn’t keep me out for more than 15 seconds. And then there would be hell to pay.

My mother was in assisted living and her home was locked and empty. I was paying all the bills from 2000 miles away and visiting periodically to do light maintenance, etc. We had someone watering the lawn, but they died and nobody notified us.

Druggies moved in, trashed the place, and stole a lot of mom’s stuff. We got some of it back, and they were arrested. But some of the items were never recovered and there is no record as to where they went.

I still haven’t gotten everything sorted out, despite the house being sold and my mom has passed away without every knowing about the thefts. I’m not too sure that the estate sale manager who handled the rest of it didn’t steal more than the thieves.

One of the thieves was let go by the police because he didn’t actually have stolen goods on him. His cohort/girlfriend got about 90 days in jail.

Eviction? Wrong venue. This is a criminal complaint. The local beat-cop can initiate a criminal complaint and have them removed forthwith. Civil courts are not the place. A plain larceny, forgery, uttering. Felonious s**t.

If I were an old woman, I’d burn the place down with them inside one dark night. Yeah, I’d be a murderer and yeah, I’d die in prison. But it would be worth it.

Me? I’d wait until they were not at home, and smash the locks with a hammer and screwdriver, call a locksmith and say your house had been broken into, and you needed new locks, immediately, emergency! Hire a crew and put all their stuff at the curb. Hire the biggest guys from the crew to hang around,,,,, and see what happens!
