Okay.
Many people, including congressmen, don't want travelers from Ebola ravaged countries allowed into the US. Nina Pham wouldn't have needed a transfusion from Dr. Brantly if the Liberian who infected her had been turned away.
It's not proven (for Ebola -- donor antibodies definitely work for some other viruses) and there just aren't enough case studies/data at this time to know for sure.
Yes, I know who Brantly is. I was trying to find the identity of the “someone” that said Brantly is a universal donor.
A few days to two weeks or so.
Regarding blood types and plasma donations: The donors are opposite of what we know about red cell donors.
Group O blood type can only donate their plasma to another group O - because it has naturally occurring anti-A and Anti-B red cell antibodies.
Group AB blood type is a universal plasma donor because their plasma does not have anti-A and anti-B red cell antibodies.
Group A blood type can donate plasma to group A and group O blood types only. That is because their plasma contains naturally occurring anti-B red cell antibodies [so no one with group B or group AB can receive plasma from a group A - or a group O donor]
Group B blood type can donate plasma to group B and group O blood types only. That is because their plasma contains naturally occurring anti-A red cell antibodies [so no one with group A or group AB can receive plasma from a group B - or group O donor].
Hope that explains it a bit.
“Since the virus can still be found in semen for several months...”
I’m thinking the blood is in constant circulation and the virus is killed as it passes through the body. The semen might be infected when it is first created, and then is held in some type of reservoir? I’m just taking a guess there.
Didn’t show symptoms for 9 days. Lord knows how many exposed infected Liberians came here over the past week or so with no one realizing they were infected.
The article said he donated serum, which is the liquid component of blood, minus his red blood cells. He gets back his red blood cells, which means he can donate plasma more frequently, since the body replaces the plasma within 48 hours.
world’s most expensive lab rat
The anti-Brantley people were incredibly nasty and persistent.
Brantly is an American, him being brought home for treatment and the Liberian, have nothing in common.
It's now obvious that people that wanted Dr. Brantly kept out of the US were wrong. Just as people that want open borders are wrong.
And yes, I already knew that Dr. Brantly is an American. Thanks for wasting no time in pointing that out to me.
If we want to go your route, I disagree that Dr. Brantly and Duncan had nothing in common. What they had in common is obvious to most people.
No they share commonality, but if you want to elevate a Liberian sneaking into America with Ebola with a Christian doctor missionary coming home for medical treatment, then I guess you fit right in with the batch that were condemning him to death 2 months ago.
And you fit into the group of people that are full of their own importance. You make nasty remarks and accusations. Just like the people you condemn (Post #50.
I did that last week.
Not that it will change them one damn bit, being commies.
The unemployed and freshly infected Duncan sneaked his Ebola into the U.S.
My statement made sense.””if you want to elevate a Liberian sneaking into America with Ebola with a Christian doctor missionary coming home for medical treatment, then I guess you fit right in with the batch that were condemning him to death 2 months ago.””
It seems that you cleared up your position and believe that Brantly had the right to come home for medical treatment rather than die in Africa in exile, so I guess that excludes you from the anti-Brantly group that you at first appeared to be in.
It might be that the transfusion of his blood would have been wasted..
Duncans own fault that he left it too late to be saved..
Article yesterday said the doc was O+.
I don not know if this trans was even considered for Duncan.
But an article here yesterday stated that the doc is O+.
