KANSAS CITY, Kan.The University of Kansas Hospital reports an individual called and then came into the hospital early this morning with a high fever and other serious symptoms. Because the patient had recently worked on a medical boat off the west coast of Africa, the patient was immediately isolated on a special infectious disease unit and is undergoing tests. Hospital staff met the patient wearing personal protection equipment and followed the hospitals plan for this kind of illness.

You’ve got to be kidding. We went from 0 to full blown crisis in 2 weeks.
As Ronnie Reagan said: “Here we go again!”
“low to moderate risk”
well, heck, let him go out to the strip clubs!/s
Obama: “ebola is difficult to get”
Good Lord! This is really getting ridiculous! We need to seal our damned borders and keep these people from coming into our country! If the Republicans get the majority in November and this doesn’t happen, everybody in DC needs to get the tar and feather treatment!
“Patient at risk” is a new way of putting it. The cynic in me says it was focus-grouped.
Charles Krauthammer had 2 good points:
-Stop all flights from west Africa
-Regional treatment centers as hospitals cannot be expected to treat this disease, nor should people this contagious be with the general hospital population.
Bttt
If you were issued open-ended plane tickets from West Africa gratiz zero on Aug 14th and told to run as soon as you feel sick, one day later the US would import a crop of hundreds of symptomatic patients per day. Duncan landed on the 19th. Everybody else that followed zero’s escape route would be landing within a week of that.
I think we will see hundreds of diagnoses this week. Thousands of health workers will walk off the job. I would consider cancelling any elective surgery scheduled two months from today.
I am just glad I do not have any trips scheduled for the foreseeable future.
I think this guy is probably a healthcare worker from the sound of things.
Haven't you noticed? The Republicans have at least a dozen issues to campaign on, and they aren't. They're treating this whole campaigning season as a giant telethon where they want the most money so they can WIN!! Win what?...about the only one who's saying anything about what she'd accomplish is Jonie Ernst.
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss....
(Yes I want a Republican majority but am not confident they'd do sensible stuff like not allow in anyone from Ebola affected countries)
One thing to keep in mind is that the early symptoms of Ebola look like a lot of other illnesses (including bad colds, the flu, etc.) And no hospital is going to want to be the hospital that sent an Ebola patient home (particularly after Duncan was sent home the first time). So, particularly as cold & flu season gets going, we are going to be seeing a lot of stories where a “potential Ebola patient” is quarantined, but turns out to have something else.
Obama: “Ebola is not something that is easily transmitted”

Close to where I live. I’m watching this one closely. Mr. Mercat and I are getting our flu shots so we won’t have to go to the ER if we’re sick. Also setting up protocol for my paralegal who comes to the house so that if one of us gets the flu or some other disease she can pick up her computer and work at our satellite office. Scary to have to do this.
If more West Africans flood the US, it will only get worse. I am certain that Duncan won’t be the first or last West African to lie in order to be able to get to the US for better treatment.
