On the socialist networking sites (faceplace, etc.) people today are posting lists of the many other people who “discovered” America. What did they DO with it?

If “Europe” hadn’t developed the Western world, Asia may have. Or somebody else.

It’s hard to think that it would’ve remained backwater and undeveloped for hundreds of years. If it had, think of Africa. Or at least South America.

History is a record of humans oppressing others, usually through the “authority” of government.

The indians that we encountered were the remains of fallen societies after some kind of disaster (likely disease) wiped them out. Sites like Cahokia and the mounds around the midwest weren't built by the indians first encountered by Europeans. They didn't have the numbers or the time to move millions of tons of dirt to build temples. The indians encountered by Europeans were struggling to survive at a more primitive level
