'CRUSH CORBETT' RALLY HELD IN PITTSBURGH'S ALLEGHENY UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST CHURCH
10/8/2014-- 8:20 PM
The Internal Revenue Service does not look kindly to church involvement in political campaigns, but one Pittsburgh church seems to be weighing into the Pennsylvania Gubernatorial race in a manner you probably don't expect.
According to a source in Pittsburgh's North Side (who is not voting for current Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett), a 'Crush Corbett' rally was literally held tonight at 7:30 inside the city's Allegheny Unitarian Universalist Church.
'Crush Corbett' and 'Dump Corbett' banners and signs can be seen outside the church building, where organizers told our source that the anti-Corbett rally was being held.
'I don't know who was in charge of the event but the people walking around seemed familiar with the church and it looked like a church event,' said the source, who provided photos.
'I was shocked that this kind of politics was being held on church property. I'm not voting for Corbett but this is why people hate politics. This was embarrassing.'
Unitarianism really isn’t a church.
Leftists Rule 31: it’s okay when we do it.
#1 lol
only if it is not a lefty church
It’s more of a quasi-spiritual social club for liberals.
I always thought Crush Corbett was that awful old cartoon where they just cut a hole in his mouth while some actual person’s lips moved.
The IRS is looking into it.
To see if they can give them a medal and 501(c)(3) status.
I don’t live in PA, but I did notice Gov. Corbett was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down in the polls and is not likely to get re-elected. I also noticed that Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback is making a strong comeback (so is Sen. Pat Roberts).
What exactly is going on in PA and why is Corbett so far down?
Unless you're Fr. John Zuhlsdorf, in which case it's a Protestant one.
Well for one, he raised our gasoline taxes at the height of the prices. Two, he has the Philly media beating him down every minute of every day as an enemy of “education” (AKA union shakedowns). He doesn’t campaign 24/7 like the Obamas of the world. Frankly, his personality is just damned boring and he doesn’t have good PR. No fight.
Tax-exempt???? Pull that exemption NOW.
Note that tonight, Corbett will be at Valley Forge Military Academy with Governor Christie....and Wolf will be tying up traffic in Philly as he will be accompanied by...Hillary! at the Constitution Center. She’s got big money behind her...only yesterday she was in Chicago..with the back of ‘Venture Capitalist J.B. Pritzger’. Any relation to Penny Pritzker, 0bama supporter??? http://www.cbsnews.com/news/hillary-clinton-isis-more-powerful-than-al-qaeda-ever-was/
“What exactly is going on in PA and why is Corbett so far down?”
He’s awful. It’s a simple as that. Republicans are not very enthusiastic to get out and vote for him. He’s been a HUGE disappointment. He always seemed to back down in the face of adversity. The libs are hellbent on getting him out as he attempted to desecrate their altar of education spending (i.e. enriching the teachers unions).
Wolf will be worse. He’s a Rendell lackey. Wolf’s primary campaign message is to tax energy producers and give that money to school districts. No property tax relief or anything like that ... literally tax energy companies and give that money to schools. It certainly resonates with the ridiculous.
Wolf’s election will break a cycle PA has had for many many years. We’ve always had a two term D governor followed by a two term R governor for decades ... that appears to be coming to an end though most PA governors are RINOs in every sense of the word.
I think it’s mostly local issues. One thing that those of you from out of state are probably unaware of is his role in the Jerry Sandusky case. He was the AG when the initial allegations against Sandusky came out, and it was perceived in some quarters that he delayed prosecution for political reasons. Sandusky’s charity was a donor to Corbett’s first gubernatorial campaign, and the allegations were that he delayed prosecuting the case until after the election. These allegations were found (by PA’s current democratic AG) to be unfounded, but I still think it sticks with the LIV’s.
In any case, Corbett is widely seen as an ineffective governor and a RINO to boot. Probably the most egregious example is his promotion of a back door increase in the gasoline tax. (He removed a cap that limited the amount of the wholesale gasoline tax). He doesn’t really have much support among GOP voters, so it’s not surprising that he’s almost certainly going to lose next month.
For whatever reason voters in this state are suckers for Teacher Union propaganda. It played a key role in taking Rick Santorum out as well.
Three fatal mistakes of Corbett IMHO:
1) Did not fight to retain our ban on gay marriage after the Fed courts struck it down.
2) Did not fight to retain our Voter ID law after a Democrat crony state judge struck it down.
3) Raised our gas tax a whopping 28 cents a gallon, and scheduled it to ratchet up more in coming years.
That last one is really hurting him here in the Pittsburgh area. We are close enough to WV and OH to notice the sharp price difference at the pump.
Before all that he had been holding the line on taxes, which is pretty much what I elected him to do. I think he was planning for revenues to rebound in a recovery. Except that under Obama the real recovery never happened.
Unitarian churches are really social clubs for agnostics and atheists, IMHO.
Sounds like right here in Illinois. This year we have a choice between a rat, gun grabbing, baby killer and a republican, gun grabbing baby killer for governor.
Agreed, he has disappointed, but the legislature (GOP controlled in both houses) has also not come through with anything to help. Budget screwup, no property tax reform, no pension reform, etc.
Wolf will be worse. Hes a Rendell lackey. Wolfs primary campaign message is to tax energy producers and give that money to school districts.
Agreed. Both the House and the Senate will remain in GOP control, and Wolf's gas drilling tax, income tax hike, and big spending plans won't be passed, and his entire agenda is based on those things. So he will go off on some gay marriage/rights tangent or something like that.
Thanks for all of that. Appreciate it. Always knew PA was a RINO stronghold as is most of the rest of the northeast.
But.....unlike in NY state....PA-—according to what I’ve read-—has been experiencing a boom lately in the energy sector, specifically fracking.
Apparently this is not enough to help Corbett.
And, as someone else wrote, there is the 104% Dem vote out of Philly which always a challenge for any GOP politician running for statewide office in PA.
