Walmart announced today that as of the beginning of next year it will be dropping health insurance for 30,000 employees who work less than 30 hours per week.
So why is this a good thing? It may involve some hassle for individual employees, as theyll have to go to the exchange to figure out what plan to get. But most of those Walmart workers will likely come out ahead. Someone whos earning $9 an hour working 30 hours a week at a Walmart would be making $13,500 a year. Depending on what their spouse makes and what state theyre in, they could be eligible for Medicaid and pay nothing at all for insurance, or get substantial subsidies that would make a private plan extremely affordable.
Im not saying Walmart should get a medal or anything theyre just trying to maximize their profits. But this is a development that we should welcome.

**How Walmart is showing that Obamacare is working**
NOT!
Being a parasite who forces others to pay his expenses is a good thing? Who knew?
“But this is a development that we should welcome.”
Sugarcoating the crap. They’re all doing it because it’s all they have left.
“This is not the good news liberals think. From some things I’ve read even subsidized rates will be a lot higher than WalMart was charging. People could be really unhappy.”
When people look in their wallets, all the garbage they read in the newspaper, hear on TV, or hear from their “community leaders” will be worth up to and including absolutely nothing.
It’s ‘good news’ that people who didn’t need to be on welfare before will now need to be on welfare?
Yes, indeed, liberalism is a mental disorder.
Try to find a doctor who is taking new Medicaid patients. Here in Washington state, such doctors are few and far between. And getting scarcer.
Walmart should go ahead with their medical clinics, hire doctors and treat employees for nominal fees, and take out catastrophic plans on them.
the wp will cheer employers dumping their full time employees into obamacare to satisfy the employer mandate. then the employees will wake up and start clamoring. the wp will claim that obamacare has been unexpectedly broken by the insurance companies and will start advocating single payer. earlier obamacare advocate promises by the wp will be conventiently forgotten.
