Update at 2:11 p.m.: The patient, dressed in shorts and wearing a surgical mask and a plastic head covering, just walked out of the facility and into the ambulance, which had been covered in plastic. That patient will be transported to Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, where Thomas Eric Duncan was hospitalized.

We are working to determine if this person is among the 48 people the Centers for Disease Control is monitoring. So far there has been no comment from the CDC, which already had a 3 p.m. press conference scheduled.

Update at 2 p.m.: Frisco paramedics, dressed in protective gear, are preparing to transport the patient to a hospital. It’s unclear which one.

Viruses do not discriminate, that i the stupidest thing I have ever heard and frankly the HIV virus is spreading more year on year amongst the straight community, uneducated people and men and women cheating on their partners....

That is one thing viruses like HIV and Ebola do not do is discriminate who they kill. Diseases don’t ask questions.

Update at 2:49 p.m.:

A vehicle cordoned off in the CareNow parking lot is registered to a Dallas County sheriff’s deputy who went into Thomas Eric Duncan’s apartment last week, according to a story that appeared on WFAA’s website earlier this week.

And our colleagues at KXAS-TV (NBC 5) have confirmed that the person in the ambulance is an employee with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department.

The patient, who is not being identified, arrived about 3 p.m. at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in North Dallas, where Duncan died this morning. Other patrons and staff at the urgent care facility were being examined and may also be taken to a hospital for further monitoring.

“This man is a deputy sheriff, who initially went inside ebola patient’s apartment to serve notice.”

OH NO! I remember the discussion last week regarding the Sheriff Department officers that were ordered by the County Sheriff to go into the apartment to get Duncan’s girlfriend to sign the court order. I wonder how the Sheriff feels right now. Hope she’s happy with herself.

We’ll see. The primary contacts are the ones to watch since they had the most exposure. If they don’t get it, then I don’t think this guy has it either.

According to the article, this happened last night. Just great and I have to fly for a business trip next week!

It also depends on immune system. Some may show symptoms later.

Every time you speak, you aspirate thousands of saliva droplets forward to people you face... cashiers, people you eat with, one on one conversations... Those contaminated droplets may eventually be touched by you or rubbed onto another surface. So even if Ebola can only be transmitted through contact, that contact is very easy. Pretty soon we all may be faced with a choice- Boulder or Vegas.

The median is 6 days, but those stats are from Africa where people may have impaired immune systems. I would err on the side of longer incubation periods here in the first world. I don’t think the immediate contacts are out of the woods until this weekend.

Great. Got my first Texas speeding ticket this week and I was rushing into the Dallas area to pull my companies equipment out of the region. Think he was state police. Was a wolfpack that got me. Do not use the officers pen to sign the ticket like I did. Prayers up for the officer.

Low quality website, that happened last weekend. But the threat they describe is very real, there were dozens of Liberians on that flight and probably 100’s flying in every week.

“Do not use the officers pen to sign the ticket like I did.”

I always use my own pen for signing at the store. Except for the touch pads, electronic pens, etc. And then slather off with anti-bacterial gel and a handi-wipe. It may not kill the virus, but at least it might get it off my hands. (Washing is the best).

Hmm. I wonder how the clorox or lysol wipes, or even a bleach solution would work? Use that first, then get the bleach off with a regular wipe so it doesn’t wreck your skin too much.

I think Duncan left by ambulance before any other authorities arrived.

Maybe they need to start broadcasting “If you have signs of Ebola...go to the hospital.”
