FORT BRAGG, N.C. (WTVD) -- More than 100 Fort Bragg soldiers will join the fight to keep the Ebola virus from spreading.
Friday, the Pentagon announced that about 120 Fort Bragg troops will deploy to Africa on a humanitarian aid mission. The soldiers are engineers. They repair and replace roads and bridges, and build new structures. Military support personnel from the 44th Medical Brigade are also going, as well as a company of Military Police.
A Pentagon spokesman says the troops will help support medical efforts and security in Africa.
"We are not treating patients," said Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Admiral John Kirby. "The troops are not equipped to do that. That's not their jobs, but we will help establish the infrastructure, health facilities, and emergency treatment units -- that kind of thing so that the health care workers can do their job."

Misuse of our troops...can congress stop this
Who is going to control ebola in our troops?
This is beyond stupid by about ten light years.
....”Who is going to control ebola in our troops?”.....
Who is going to control the Africans who could use Ebola patients to target our troops.
Nationbuilding
The only way to control ebola at its source
First and foremost
It would safer for the American people if
the EXEMPT Senate would go, first.
After all, they are EXEMPT.
Because there is such an abundance of medical workers just waiting to treat Ebola ....
Also, the CDC and DOD agreed to up the number of troops assigned to this mission...to 4000.
“The Pentagon says a total of 3,000 to 4,000 troops will be a part of the effort.”
Prayers for them and their families.
.
Why are there more soldiers fighting E-bola than fighting ISIS...???
If someone wanted to destroy the US military, this is exactly how they would do it...
On the other hand - maybe our government knows what they’re doing and they’ll stop a pandemic involving millions of Africans ... Time will tell.
Hopefully, all the troops will be safe - but if even one comes down with Ebola all hell is coming.
If FedGov were serious about keeping Ebola out of the United States, they would stop all non-essential flights (i.e. all passenger/commercial flights) from Liberia and other affected areas to the US, and prohibit individuals who have spent significant time in affected areas to enter the US unless they’re willing to undergo 3 week (=potential latent incubation period) quarantine.
They are building 17 treatment centers, and these are engineers, it isn’t a misuse.
One health worker in Africa was infected by an Ebola patient who BIT HIM. These troops better wear hazmat suits 24/7 and stay away from the populace.
Are they all white guys?
Why
You said that sending military engineers to build treatment centers to halt an epidemic from going global is a misuse of the military.
Why did you claim that?
Wow. Somebody in Fayetteville must have angered val jarret.
