HONG KONG (CNN) — Thousands of pro-democracy protesters jammed the streets of Hong Kong’s central business district Saturday night and early Sunday, clapping and cheering just hours after an ultimatum by government leaders: Let city workers back in their offices soon, or else.

Monday may bring a change in events. The students/protestors have built up the barracades and don't intend to leave. The government is starting to insist more strongly they do leave and want streets cleared by Monday morning.

other news: Student protestors are asking that folks not use "Umbrella Revolution' but to use "Umbrella Movement" instead, as 'movement' is perceived as less inflamatory to the Chinese govt powers that be.

Also, party-line commander who ordered tear gas has no regrets, says it saved lives: http://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/article/1609835/ive-no-regrets-about-tear-gas-says-top-police-officer-who-ordered-its

The police will use force to clear out the streets.

As a last resort the PLA garrison may intervene if the Hong Kong government cannot restore calm.

Hong Kong is a Special Administrative District of China still in transition from G. Britain, and as such they only have police forces that they have “infiltrated” into the HK Police at their disposal. I doubt that they would break the treaty that returns over a 50 year period in the first 1/3 of the timeframe by marching red chinese troops to quell the masses. Time is on their side. However, I believe that HK is going to transform China from within over time due to Western Freedoms on display.

The Chinese Communist Party is not going to make concessions.

The protesters can come to terms with it or they can be ground down.

China is not about to grant Hong Kong a demand it won’t grant in mainland China.

If half of the Hong Kong residents had hunting rifles with scopes and lots of ammo in the high rises of the city, China would not dare do anything to harm them. It would be suicide.

I guess in HongKong people carry umbrellas for rain and sun. When the pepperspray started, an innovative person realized that an upturned umbrella would keep the spray off the face; similarly, umbrellas en masse were used to create a testudo. Not so effective against tear gas but pretty smart thinking nonetheless. Early press photos of the pepperspraying showed the umbrellas being used and one of the first teargas photos showed a guy holding an umbrella in the mist. “Umbrella guy” has become as famous as “tank guy”, and the yellow umbrella as a symbol of peaceful protest for democracy. At least, that’s my take.

If I was there I would be on a rooftop, camoflauged with a 338 Lapua Magnum and a least 2K rounds of ammo. Sending maoists/athiests to hell would be on the bucket list.

I was in Tibet on a climbing expedition years ago. Every Tibetan town had a Chinese military camp to enforce order. These Chinese seemed to take their position and bully people without question. I am sure it is the same in Hong Kong. Someone could take out a commie soldier with a brick from behind and take their weapons and go from there. If every commie never knew if they would come home at night they would change. HOPE, CHANGE, but not in the 0bammunist way. The good way.

Democracy is the road to socialism. -Karl Marx

Democracy is indispensable to socialism.
The goal of socialism is communism. -V.I. Lenin

The meaning of peace is the absence of opposition to socialism .-Karl Marx

A polite war of ribbons has errupted in HongKong. Protest supporters have for days covered the city with yellow ribbons tied to railings and signs. Pro mainland supporters are now countering with their own, blue, ribbons.

Coverage from Foxnews mentions Mong kok as a demonstration focus last night, a scene of some ongoing attacks against the protestors. One of the milder ones being water poured on them from apartments above and other, more serious attacks on young women, reportedly from hired thugs:

This Hong Kong demonstration and the Ukrainian NATO missile defense provocation are CIA destabilization operations run as punishment for the creation of the BRICS economic bloc, period.
