Yes, medically “downgrade” means it’s getting worse, the opposite of when people say “we are downgrading the threat” means it’s less serious. That’s really a problem with English. Kind of how “third degree” assault, for example, is the least violent, but “third degree” burns are the worst.
Let’s just say that when you’re in the hospital for 5 days with a virus, and you go from serious to critical, it’s time to call the priest because treatments are failing.
I bet that gated community will be thrill when they learn who their new neighbor is. Why can’t the judge move them into his own specious home?

In this case Dr. Ursus got it right. The family will enlist the best lawyer they can find & sue the hospital. They will say the two days following the patient’s initial visit, when he was seen & released, were critical/allowed the virus to progress to the point of fatality. Whether they will win I don’t know. The patient failed to disclose his Ebola contact history. Hopefully a jury will take a dim view of that omission.
I wrote on another thread earlier today that his time’s just about up. It’s 7-10 days from when you show symptoms, and today would be 7 days from September 25 when he went to the hospital.

Four relatives of the Texas Ebola patient who have been confined to their Dallas apartment moved to a home in a gated community the use of which was given to them by an anonymous donor, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said tonight during a news conference.
Jenkins said he rode with the family of Thomas Eric Duncan to the home at an undisclosed location within Dallas city limits. He and Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said the donor was a friend whom they both called upon for help.
“They’ve got room to move,” Jenkins said of the family, which is under quarantine and can’t leave the property.

completely agree. The fact that the first person to die on American soil will likely be a black man, when the white patients all survived, will of course become a big hand-wringing issue for all the black racists out there.

I was talking to my Mom about this A little while ago and I told her that I fully expected to hear that man had died within the next several days. Now I see that sadly he is critical. This is why we have got to stop flights in from the 4 hardest hit countries until this thing burns out.
