Ok, thanks. These updates always seem to come from those closer to the situation, but news reports don’t mention a thing. It’s almost like they’ve been told not to pass certain types of information along. Keep me updated if you can.

Actually, I'm glad that she was interviewed and it was published. Lots more relevant information was revealed than was given us by "authorities". I feel bad for her and her family, being told our government "would take care of her". It took them a couple days after quarantining her family before they responded to her cries for food. It took them five days before moving her to an adequate site and properly cleaning her apartment. She and her family are going through a lot of grief, because of a relative foisting this situation on them. She certainly doesn't need indecision on the part of government "care".

It seems a little incongruous that people will don spacesuits to deal with Ebola and others will not.

Ebola is a virus. The common cold is also a virus. My 2-year-old granddaughter became ill last week with the common cold. I was very careful in caring for her, making sure I washed my hands repeatedly and not transfer her germs to me. One time on the couch I dozed off, and awoke to find her one inch from my face, breathing into my face while she said "wake up Grandpa!". That's all it took for me to get sick with her cold by the next morning. Just a chance spray of the virus up my nostrils. Mucous glands in the nose are susceptible to disease, as they can potentially allow a virus into the bloodstream if there are tiny lesions. Not all people are at risk in this manner, but it seems wise to use protection when exposed to ebola. By the way, my granddaughter's mom (my daughter) remains healthy despite very intense direct contact with our cold-stricken granddaughter. But Grandma also caught it (she was careful too).

All true, but all viruses are not equal. For one thing they spread in the body differently. The cold virus infects cells in the upper respiratory tract. Ebola infects the blood vessels, specifically the cells in the walls of the blood vessels. That's how you die from it, but it also infects the microphages that are part of the immune system all around the body. So it will also be in the respiratory tract but not in as large numbers and you won't die from that.

The bottom line is the fluids matter more with Ebola than with the cold but fluids like spray from a sneeze can spread either virus.

Don’t know if you have read a few of my recent posts — I now live 20 miles away from that Dallas hospital where the Ebola case is. My county is next to Dallas County.

I also have a significant other and the rule for Ebola for us is:
If another person in Dallas County who is living in the public (not quarantined), gets it, we limit trips to necessary ones using thorough antiseptic cleaning methods when we leave a place and get in the car, then clean ourselves when we get home (have pump bottles of hand antiseptic, soap/water, and hundreds of bleach soaked wipes for counter tops/other places.) If someone in my county gets sick who is not already quarantined, we will stay home until the danger is over even if it takes six months or more for the “all clear”.

I don’t think the virus grows in the sweat gland cells, but some should get through the in water produced by those glands. I have also read that the virus shows up in saliva even though it is also destroyed by enzymes in the saliva.
