U.S. Soldiers in “War” with ISIS Not Eligible for Medals?
ACLJ.com ^ | 10/01/14 | By Matthew Clark

With 1,600 military “advisers” on the ground in Iraq, 2,300 of our troops being deployed to the Middle East as a “special purpose marine air ground task force,” and ongoing airstrikes being conducted in Iraq and Syria against ISIS’s jihadist army, it is absolutely stunning that our military personnel are NOT eligible for certain military medals.

Why? Because the Obama Administration refuses to call our fight against ISIS terror a military campaign.

It’s not only outrageous; it’s insulting to the brave men and women our Commander-in-Chief has put in harm’s way, has sent into a war zone, to defend freedom.

Make no mistake; ISIS is at war with America. They are slaughtering Christians.

My first job out of the military was at a manufacturing plant in North Andover, MA as an electronics technician. The man who was in charge of mentoring me was a WWII vet who drove a landing craft in the battle of Iwo Jima, bringing in ammunition and bringing back bodies, constantly under heavy fire. His unit didn’t even get a ribbon much less a medal. Generation Wuss gets medals for passing gas in a country near a war zone. Do you really think it makes them better soldiers or makes them feel more appreciated for what they do?

These guys don’t do it for the medals, hell they don’t even do it for you. They do it for the Marine or soldier next to them. This is a crap article. Nothing more than stirring the pot.

The first rule when writing a story about U.S. soldiers is to make sure that your photo depicts U.S. soldiers. These soldiers are Canadians.

Secondly, the Global War on Terrorism has been awarded for a number of operations beyond Enduring Freedom. The Philippines and Horn of Africa are two examples that come to mind. The GWOT Expeditionary Medal currently covers Qatar, Kuwait, the Persian Gulf, Somalia, and several others. I am certain that it will be approved for award in Iraq and Syria. When we went to war in Iraq and Afghanistan, it was some months before campaign medals were approved. After all, bureaucrats attend to these matters. This is a non story.
