Former President Jimmy Carter claimed Wednesday that he would have been re-elected and beaten Ronald Reagan in 1980 if had been more manly in his dealings with Iran.
Interviewed by the show "CNBC Meets," Carter repeated his belief that the failed mission to free American hostages held in Tehran killed his chances, but then added that had he gone to war, America would have rewarded him with a second term in 1980.
I could've been re-elected if I'd taken military action against Iran, shown that I was strong and resolute and, um, manly and so forth, said the former president, who has established himself as a world human rights leader.
I could have wiped Iran off the map with the weapons that we had, but in the process a lot of innocent people would have been killed, probably including the hostages and so I stood up against all that all that advice, and then eventually my prayers were answered and every hostage came home safe and free. And so I think I made the right decision in retrospect, but it was not easy at the time, he said, according to a transcript provided to Secrets.
Interviewed with his wife, Carter said he also had to ignore Rosalynns pleadings to do something.
In the end, she said that she was proud of her husband. Peace is very difficult. War is popular in our country, said Mrs. Carter.
Smarter begins with smart. Surely in the case of Carter, you mean less dumb. I know he graduated The United States Naval Academy, but he was a transfer student, wasn’t he? Since the question is so often asked of Palin, I’d like to know how many schools this American monument to impotence attended.
That is an insult to peanut butter!
My auntie might have been my uncle if she’d had been plumbed just a little bit differently.
I’m shocked and disgusted at the image of violence that the 1st picture brings to my mind.
My always and ever living God, I do well always and everywhere to praise You and to leave vengeance to You. Please forgive me the ugliness of my thoughts.
Translation: If I wasn’t such a POS loser I wouold have beat Reagan.
After a few Billy Beer’s, all women look beautiful and you believe you are capable of growing set. Get yer hands outa the cooler Jimmah!
He’s still alive? What an idiot.
not sure which,
Carter is either an old queen or an older house wife.
Or my mother's favorite: “if wishes were horses, then beggars would ride.”
Carter had no guts from the start!
He interfered with the Israelis, who were kicking major butt, at the time, with a ‘play nice, boys’ attitude.
With the oil problem, he bent over and grabbed, to where the U.S. military had to drop a lot of training and flight time.
When it came to the Iranians, he was a fish out of water.
I remember one Fall day in 1974 reading a newspaper article about some unknown Governor "Jimmuh" Carter who was planning to run for the Presidency in '76, and that he happened to be exactly 30 years older... Being a political n00b at the time, I voted for Mr. Peanut in the following election; as each Anniversary rolls around, I'm reminded of this gross error & the naiveté of my 'yoot'.
For most of Carter’s presidency, I was a student at Indiana University studying German. All of the German newspapers just called him “Erdfussbauer,” which means “peanut farmer.”
They had absolutely no respect for him, because he had earned none.

As I remember it, Jimma got mad because the Shah would not go along with a scheme one of Jimma’s friends had to get a kickback from a construction project in Iran. Carter got so mad he facilitated the Shah’s removal.
So the entire Iran mess could have been avoided if the Shah had been as crooked as Jimma. And think of all the lives that could have been saved.
more ‘manly’? The rabbit done him in.
