Retired GOP Senator Refused To Film Campaign Ad For Pat Roberts

Former Sen. Nancy Kassebaum Baker (R-KS) refused to film a campaign TV ad on behalf of vulnerable incumbent Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS), the Kansas City Star reported Tuesday.

Kassebaum Baker represented Kansas in the Senate from 1978 to 1997 and was succeeded by Roberts, who had been a congressman. Her father Alf Landon was governor of Kansas and the Republican nominee against FDR in 1936.

“There’s just disappointment around the state,” she told the Star of Roberts. “They feel they don’t know him now.”

Roberts is facing an unexpectedly robust challenge from independent candidate Greg Orman, who currently leads the incumbent by 1 point in TPM's PollTracker average. A group of moderate Kansas Republicans also endorsed Orman in the race.

Kassebaum Baker had previously criticized Roberts in a Washington Post profile of Roberts last week. She singled out Roberts' vote in 2012 against a United Nations treaty that would have banned discrimination against people with disabilities. Another former Kansas Republican senator, Bob Dole, who is himself disabled, had advocated for the treaty.

“People thought, ‘Gosh, why couldn’t he have done that for Bob?’ ” she said. “That just triggered an emotional disappointment with Pat. I think that carried on and has not been changed.”

I do not think Obama will veto anything. He hasn’t yet, and it is curious why Reed has been so careful to keep controversial stuff off of Obama’s desk. Obama has a nickname, “votes present”, because he doesn’t like to take a stand either way on anything. I for one would love to see a popular bill like Keystone land on Obama’s desk and watch him have to actually deal with it. My bet is that he will ignore it and it will pass by default.

Your #2 states the real question. Pat Roberts of Kansas is NOT Thad Cockroach of Mississippi. The GOP-E is gunning for Sam Brownback to be defeated. Weakening Roberts divides conservative effort. Kansas has a substantial number of Demonrats in GOP drag who want the jobs and the contracts. If they beat Brownback, there will likely be a leftist running for governor in four years as a "Republican" with BIG money support, willing to raise taxes, cheerleading for abortion, "gay" everything, gun restrictions and what not. Nancy Landon Kassebaum-Baker was a waste of oxygen throughout her adult life.

Kansans: Roberts has some warts but he would look like George Washington compared to the slimeball opposing him. Vote for him. See to it that your friends and neighbors do too!

Pat has never been a RINO. His ACU rating is a lifetime of 90+.

I cannot imagine why on earth Kassebaum would be jealous of Sarah Palin.

...really? Then you might not have much imagination... old Nancy can’t hold a candle to Palin and hasn’t half the resume, other than running on her grandfather’s name.

They come from a long line of winners: Landon, Willkie, Dewey, Dewey, Rockefeller, Romney, Scranton, McCain, Romney...

Hey, if Nancy Kassebaum doesn’t like him, he can’t be all *that* bad, right?

Or perhaps I just don't have as vivid an imagination as you.

I am not a big fan of Pat Roberts primarily because of his close associations with the likes of Mitch McConnell, Haley Barbour, Thad Cochran and other scum bags, and of course, THE RESIDENCY THING. However.............

Brownback may go down but, everyone needs to relax. Roberts is going to pull it out on November 4. I’ve been a political junkie all my life and I just know it in my gut.

Its funny the Milton Wolf fanboys hyped Liz Cheney and endlessly championed and defended her campaign in Wyoming when she really lived in Virgina for the last 30 years.

THEN they flip-flopped 180 degrees a few months later and screamed bloody hell when Roberts lived in Virginia and ran for office in Kansas.

After they got nowhere on this issue, they couldn’t figure out why voters wouldn’t buy their “do as we say, not as we do” double standards for Senate candidates.

You reap what you sow, Levin fans!

The difference is Cheney ended her senate campaign during the primary while Roberts didn’t. Apples and oranges:)

>> The difference is Cheney ended her senate campaign during the primary while Roberts didn’t. Apples and oranges:) <<

Well she must have ended it because Mark Levin, The "Tea Party Express", RedState.com, and all the other people ranting and raving about Roberts living in Virginia were OUTRAGED when Liz did it and opposed her candidacy, right?

Oh that's right. DURING her Senate campaign, they were TOTALLY supportive of her carpetbagging in Wyoming.

Gotta love the hypocrisy. Liz Cheney cheerleaders howling about Roberts Virginia residence have as much credibility as liberals howling about Bush's vacation trips in the White House and then being 100% supportive of Obama's constant vacations in the White House. But of course, Bush is no longer President so its apples and oranges, you know. ;-)
