Get ready to whip out your credit card before you are wheeled into the operating room or undergo an MRI.
Hospitals are increasingly asking patients to pay for procedures either upfront or before they are discharged. That's because Americans are shouldering a greater portion of their health care bills, and medical centers don't want to get stuck with patients that can't pay.
(snip)
The policies available on the Affordable Care Act exchanges are hastening this trend. Many enrollees are opting for the bronze and silver plans, which often carry deductibles upwards of $5,000 and $2,000, respectively.
"The bronze plans are scaring a lot of administrators because the patient liability is so large," said Debra Lowe, administrative director of revenue cycle at Ohio State University's Wexner Medical Center. "Patients are unaware they have this high deductible."
Only if you are white and/or upper middle class minorities. I have not seen an illegal yet that has been asked for insurance or payment.
Just wait until the next stage of implementation hits in January 2015 (after the elections, of course) and people get kicked out of their employer-provided programs and on to Obamacare. The nightmare is just getting started.
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
To be clear: They never intended to “fix” healthcare.
They mean to destroy it.
Once it is dead, they assume the populace will clamor for a government solution, and they can clear the dead and bankrupt insurers out of the way and implement healthcare the way the statists want it implemented.
State (Federally)controlled Single Payer.
Never mind that before that happens, tens or hundreds of thousands of people will lose their jobs, hospitals are going to go bankrupt, and patient care is going to go right down the toilet.
To them, it is the price of making omelettes. The eggs that will have to be broken.
When the amount witheld from employees paychecks each week for health insurance premiums exceeded their weekly federal witholding taxes, the plan was very clear from that point forward.
Right, unexpected. /s
They need to publish their prices then. Furthermore, adding to the gifts of obastard care... the insurance carriers are not negotiating or are prohibited from negotiating affordable in network contract rates. This used to be one reason for having insurance... you got better rates than if you paid out of pocket.
NOW, the carriers are incentivized to not negotiate rates at all since their profit margin is a PERCENTAGE of COST. The higher the cost the more money they retain. Pay attention to this people. It is brutal since the cost of procedures within the deductible and the uncovered portion of costs after the deductible BOTH go up. YOU ARE GETTING HAMMERED!
SUFFER ME TO EMPHASIZE THIS POINT.

Better study up on shamanistic practices, reiki, acupuncture etc. traditional medical care is about to become a thing of the past except for the elite. Actually some of it won’t be missed but those who need trauma care are going to be in big trouble soon.
Dumbed down Americans in for the free stuff failed to learn the meaning of deductible and the math re $2500-$5000 deductibles.d
Oh well, if they are in line for hours or days for their newest smart phone, they can pay for their health care deductibles. Or can they?
Mine has already begun...............
Yup. Daughter had to get her credit card out after an ER visit (before discharge) even though her very good medical plan is registered with the hospital. Seems some website was down.
People are unaware of the high deductible. These people are too damn stupid to understand how insurance works. They’re all just like the woman who said Obama was going to make her house payments and fill her tank with gas. She represents most of the people who voted for Obama.
That's the way government contracts are written. Hence, the $600 toilet seat.
I wonder when they are going to start demanding medical offices pay their clerical staff prevailing wage?
If the Republicans somehow manage not to screw up and take control of the Senate, this could be a godsend. Can you imagine the fun there could be if the Republicans controlled both the House and the Senate, and the country is about to riot because of ObamaCare?
Talk about never letting a crisis go to waste. The Republicans could hold hearings in the House and Senate 24/7 for the next 2years. They could make mincemeat out of ?Obama and the Democrats.
Another thing about those stupid people who voted for Obama and would again, they don’t know the difference between health CARE and health INSURANCE.
i was required to pay my portion of a cardio scan a few years ago. when they asked me how much of the bill I wanted to pay I told them “all of it”. I left the hospital given potentially fatal (incorrect) advice about what activities I could safely engage in.
a couple of months later they sent me a bill requesting additional payment for the scan. I called them up and told them I had already paid for “all of it”. the finance lady shuffled some papers for a while then came back on line and told me to disregard the bill.
Granpa, that picture is right on.
Funny how the more these people vote for free stuff the more expensive things get.
If the GOP wins the senate, the Dems will just tell low info voters that is the reason they are losing their insurance.
