AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Facing criticism about the handling of recent abuse cases, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell spent three hours Saturday night visiting the headquarters of the National Domestic Violence Hotline and getting an up-close look at the realities victims face.
Hotline CEO Katie Ray-Jones, whose organization has received a multiyear, multimillion dollar pledge of assistance from the NFL, described the private meeting as "emotional" for Goodell.
"At one point he was physically moved to tears as he heard stories from our advocates about what women were encountering, that we took today," Ray-Jones said.
Hotline officials had invited Goodell to visit the facility, which is housed in a non-descript, unmarked building in suburban Austin.
"Doing the work, as they say," was all Goodell would say when as he and several league officials walked into the building. He gave a brief wave to cameras when he stepped out of his limousine.
When he left, Goodell was flanked by two hotline staff members and refused to answer questions.

For $44 million per year, can’t they hire a better actor?
I wonder how much of that pressure to resign comes because he won’t force the Redskins to change their name?
I don’t think any amount of crocodile tears are going to save him.
Is there some other way to shed tears than physically?
You mean like this guy?
He’s “in tears”. For Goodness sake, man up, you wimp.
BS. He ignored many reports of domestic violence by his players. He has only taken any action once a criminal act was made public.
NFL: Negros, Felons, & Liberals. No one else need apply.
Rush is gonna go nuts!
Instead of the Commish, shouldn’t the players be the ones to visit the DV center?
Chemically?
I wonder if the sudden fuss over the NFL is related to envy over the salaries these entertainers are paid. People see men making millions of dollars per year, and then suddenly they realize, “Hey, this guy is a creep!”
He acts like he’s been scalped-Oh wait..........!
TEAMS pay the cheerleaders, not the league. And most of them get paid just fine, there’s a couple of teams too cheap for words, and they’re losing lawsuits.
Agreed. Or as someone said “I am offended by people who are offended.”
A woman led a ban of the song “The Stripper” at Chicago Blackhawks’ home games. She found the song offensive. The song is banned. Yet, actor Cuba Gooding, Jr., at a Blackhawks’ home game, removed his shirt (story here: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/cuba-gooding—jr—goes-topless-in-chicago-after-intermission-goal—video-023703978.html ). I wonder if the woman offended by a song was equally disturbed by a person taking off his shirt at a game. Maybe he was mocking her, I don’t know.
How Clintonian of him.
The Reverend Al Sharpton has declared that NFL white players should beat their wives in the interest of racial fairness.
Tears fearing his azz is grazz
