A ballot issue in Florida this November will be "Amendment 2", a measure that would legalize medical marijuana in the state. Crist and his liberal ally, attorney John Morgan, are proponents of the ballot measure, while current GOP governor Rick Scott is against it.
Crist has changed parties and changed stances on gay marriage, abortion and medical marijuana.
He said he will vote yes on Amendment 2.
I do support it, Crist said. Rick Scott opposes it; I don't know what else to tell you.
Critics think medical marijuana was pushed onto the ballot by Attorney John Morgan as a way to get liberal thinking voters to show up to the polls.
(An aside: "liberal thinking voters" is an odd phrase.)
It's possible they've done the research and discovered that medical marijuana legislation is an issue that fires up the liberal base and will push more liberal voters to the polls - the type of liberal voters who don't care about who Charlie Crist really is and will just pull the lever for anyone with a D next to their name - but it seems like a surprising voter strategy.
Crist has been consistently down in the polls by a few points for awhile now:
There is a reason Liberal thinking voters is in quotation and we all know why
The stoners probably wouldn’t know it was election day.
So the Democrats can add another group to their ever expanding political coalition: the potheads. What ever happened to appealing to voters concerns about the economy and national defense? Oh, who am I kidding ? Crist is appealing to the low info idiots so I guess this is as good as any strategy to appeal to them.
Tell all your liberal friends that due to a large turn out, Republicans vote on Tuesday and Democrats vote on Wednesday.
It works in Arizona. It draws in “voters” from all over the southwest and northwest. These pothead propositions go down with the Arizona voters but the “provisional” ballots send them over the top.
All the stoners are Democrats already.
And Crist’s campaign slogan is “if you want more, vote for the whore.”
Liberals take it as an article of “faith” that pot initiatives will somehow tilt the vote their direction. I had a wonderful discussion on the subject with an acquaintance 26 years ago:
Him: The right wing will never let pot be legalized, because they know it would cause the biggest tilt to the left this country has ever seen.
Me: How many people in this room (10 or so) smoke pot?
Him: All of them.
Me: Other than you, how many are voting for Dukakis?
Him: F__k you, man. (Leaves).
He’s now a journalist, fyi.
Not to mention the Libertarians.
It could backfire. It doesn’t take very heavy pot use at all to permanently rewire the brain to make people less ambitious and lack initiative.
Unambitious apathetic people probably won’t take the trouble to vote. However, I’m perfectly okay with them staying home.
Floriduh conservatives should help the dopers score the day before election and on election day. Then:
“The stoners probably wouldnt know it was election day.”
Huh.
Drug-addled people are more likely to vote Democrat.
Whouda thunk it?
I don’t think Scott opposes Medical Marijuana, he only wants to keep it limited, the truth is, it does not matter, it is on the ballot for the people to decide regardless.
I do believe Scott has already legalized Med-MJ in Florida for certain medical conditions, although I am not sure if it was before or after it became a ballot issue. I think he will respond to Crist if this is a fact before the campaigning is over, if he hasn’t already.
The other important thing is Scott will destroy Crist in any debates they may have.
Not if they’re high.
It’s Thursday already? Break out some more bud.
