Why You Are Likely To Lose Your Health Insurance -- No Matter How Much You Like It
Forbes ^ | 9-24-14 | John C. Goodman

One of Barack Obama’s best-remembered promises was, “If you like your health insurance, you can keep it.” But at the very same time the president was making that promise, lawmakers on Capitol Hill were drafting legislation that would make sure that promise could never be kept.

We call it Obamacare.

Moreover, the problem is not only that millions of people were unable to keep the plan they had in 2010, when the health reform law was passed. They are not likely to be able to keep for long any plan they have selected this year on a health insurance exchange. As we go forward, all health plans will be subjected to restrictions that are likely to change every year. So a plan that meets the Obamacare restriction this year, may not meet the restriction next year or the year after that.

In fact the idea of long-lasting portable insurance – that allows you to keep your doctor and form a long lasting relationship with medical providers – was completely squashed when Congress passed Obamacare.

Take a look at the chart below. It reflects the fact that all commercial health insurance must fit within four metallic bands: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Each band is defined by its “actuarial value” – which is the percent of covered benefits the plan is expected to pay. For example, a Bronze plan is expected to pay between 58% and 62% of health care costs for a representative enrollee. A Silver plan is expected to pay between 68% and 72%. And so forth.

Now here is what is really strange...snip... in th[e video at the link]. There are gaps between the corridors. And if your plan happens to fall within one of the gaps, it is no longer a valid plan.

Barack Obama and the lying Democrats need to be held accountable for the criminal fraud —worse than Madoff—that they perpertrated on the country; and not just through opinion polls and the ballot box. He should be in jail and the Wookie driven from the White House!

It was well known in 2012 that he had lied his a*s off about this. Yet the country re-elected him anyway.

Because the MSM told them that Mitt Romney was a dog-abusing polygamist who went around shipping jobs to India and giving people cancer as he was stealing all the birth control from their medicine cabinet.

Until voters quit watching television we’re DOOMED.

When the federal government observed that the value of employer sponsored insurance plans matched or exceeded federal tax witholding amounts, they realized they needed to get in on this racket.

It's really just that simple.

I agree with your remarks, but also think that it is a way to CONTROL the people, by having the deciding vote related to whether each person can live or die, ultimately.

Many doctors will not accept any insurance purchased on the ‘exchanges’ no matter what metallic band they are.

So it will be harder to find a PCP (primary care physician). And w/o a PCP you do not have access to any specialists you have to be referred to a specialist by the PCP.

On top of that, if you do happen to find a PCP who will take your exchange purchased insurance, the wait times to see him/her are running up to 3 months.

So if you need to be seen right away for a problem, you will have no other choice but to go to the ER.

The ER’s are already overrun.

And yet the republicrats funded obama care TWICE. Just last thursday they funded obama care and abortion ( Planned Parenthood) with Billions on dollars because they have no agenda — they have no direction and they are a bunch of poll reading -pragmatists instead of real conservatives and they are not going to win the Senate when it otherwise should be a cake walk. They sent your donated money to defeat Chris McDanial in Mississippi because he was Tea Party. Not because he wasn’t going to win but they don’t like conservatives in this party. John Cornyn ( head of the senate campaign) sent your party money down to pay 6000 blacks, who had voted in the democratic primary, to vote against McDanial in the run off and vote for the geezer obama loving adulterer encumbant. Read it and weep.

That being understood, I would remind anyone who buys into the government's aim on your final end of life counseling session takes place on your 72'nd birthday that there is one stark reality.

Nothing is more dangerous than 5,000,000 men over the age of 60 with end stage prostate cancer gone untreated with guns and no mission beyond the reciprocation in their version of "End of Life Counseling".

The government may be well served to mind that end of life counseling is a two way street, and we have a whole lot more counselors.

Where are the stats on the number of people losing their coverage?

Where are the stats on how much more its costing vs. what Obama promised.

Why are the GOP candidates not blaming Dems for all this destruction of our HC system?

I thought this election was going to be about Obamacare

Republicans are not capitalizing on this gift given to them by the libs.

Insurance your employer pays for is part of your wages, right? Has anyone who lost their insurance got enumeriation for the portion of wages they lost ? No. The employer keeps that portion they were paying. They get to keep that 10%.

That's part of the hook this admistration dangles before businesses, drop the insurance and keep the difference.

However the rules are different for those with employer based insurance versus privately bought insurance, even once that mandate is allowed to kick in.

Hell, the rules differ from individual to individual. That was what the people wanted.
