Bill O’Reilly: Why not raise a 25,000-man global mercenary army to fight ISIS?

Seems far-fetched. We’re going to recruit and vet thousands of possibly unreliable foreigners, arm them to the teeth, shower them with cash, give them some perfunctory training, then send them into battle against the world’s nastiest jihadi degenerates, from ISIS to Al Qaeda to Hezbollah? Why, that’s … exactly what Obama’s planning to do with Syria’s “moderates.” Right? One of O’Reilly’s guests last night called his mercenary plan “morally corrosive” because it would outsource the national security of the United States to foreign actors, which … we’re right now in the process of doing. Who would you rather take your natsec chances with? A multinational mercenary force of experienced Blackwater-types who share no interests with ISIS, or a group of Sunnis from Syria who are more interested in attacking Assad and might be A-OK with the thought of Wahhabis ruling Damascus when push comes to shove?

The UN prohibits the raising of mercenary armies but the U.S. didn’t ratify the treaty that established that rule, so hey. (On the contrary, Article I of the Constitution empowers Congress to issue “letters of marque,” as any Ron Paul fan will happily remind you.) The flaw in O’Reilly’s theory isn’t that it’s “morally corrosive” to send trained soldiers-for-hire to do the heavy lifting against ISIS that our incompetent and cowardly Sunni allies in the region should be doing for themselves. The flaw is that there’s no obvious next step if the mercenaries succeed in routing ISIS from Raqqa and eastern Syria. Who takes over and rules that half of the country if that happens?

The “rebels” are the mercenary army we built to go after Assad. They’ve been chopping up Christians since they started. Now half of them have invaded Iraq and are merrily chopping up Christians there too.

So we start up another mercenary army to go after them. Which, by the way, is exactly Obama’s plan. Then when they go “Kurtz” and start free-lancing, then what? We build another army to go after them?

Because they will. We will be using the same human raw material to build the replacement-ISIS as we used the first time. Unless we are prepared use Special Forces to lead them directly, as we did in Afghanistan, we can’t hope to get a different result.

I’d bring the bacon grease.

Bacon infused bullets may well bring better results because once the IS-HOLES realize that they even get winged they are going to miss out on paradise they may well reconsider...

Bill O’Reilly is an idiot for a few reasons

1) How did hiring mercenaries to look after military interests work for Rome?

2) No mercenary in their right mind would join such an endeavor, where they would be vulnerable to imprisonment should they violate the ‘Geneva Convention’ even when facing down barbaric enemies.

3) No country in its right mind would fund such an endeavor, for fear of some grizly video of mercenaries beheading people leaking out, and thus a backlash from their population over ‘financing brutality’.

4) Mercenaries will just totally forget how Blackwater was rewarded for its involvement in our last venture. /sarc

This idea is plain stupid. It would never have the support needed, it would never find the volunteers, administering it would be a nightmare, and it would financially ruin us.

NO NO NO NO NO

It possibly could work with recruits from friendly and actively-terrorist-opposing countries like AU, UK, Canada, US, France, Germany, etc—something like the French Foreign Legion. But who would command and equip it? The former Uncle Money Bags?

Well, it’s what they have done all throughout history.

If they had ever stopped slaughering each other with a vengeance and united, history might have been quite a bit different.

I agree with the “morally corrosive” comment; I believe that whenever American lives becomes to precious to fight for their own country, then we(America) deserves to fall. At that point we have become Rome. Additionally. This would gut our elite forces as the pay in this mercenary force would be far greater than in our current military. Also, Command and Control would become problematic. Study the history of the French Foreugn Legion for guidance. I’m not going to recap here, there’s plenty of info available by Googling....

So much stupid here...where to even begin?

Bill? We have this thing called the military. they were kinds formed for this stuff. they kill people and break things. It’s sorta what they do.

Instead of acting like the liberal POS you are, why not forward the radical notion to your viewers that we use them to their full ability? Yea, that means getting getting the Muslim and his GOP Dhimmi’s out of the way. Why not suggest that to your viewers as well?

See, those guys that kill people and break things have lots of things to do the job with. you might also suggest to your viewers that they use them instead of wasting time sitting uselessly in their Muslim mandated transexual appreciation classes.

Excellent point.

Muslims hate other Muslims only slightly more than infidels which they also consider as infidels because they don’t follow the same sect of Islam.

And as you point out, it has been happening for hundreds of years. Plus they all have a vendetta against each other for something that happened hundreds of years ago.

The Legion swears their life to the Legion and to France only, they aren’t mercenaries.

The advantage of a foreign legion is that you can undertake interventions that you can’t politically sell back home.

But that is the problem. If you are going to send in troops, you have to take the political risk of selling it to the voters. If you won’t risk your political hide, you have no right to ask some soldier to risk his life.
