ith a smile on his face, George Zimmerman spent Saturday afternoon posing for photos, sharing hugs and shaking hands with gun enthusiasts at a firearms expo in Lake Mary..
"It's so odd to me," said Zimmerman, about the celebrity treatment he receives in public. "[But] it is appreciated."
In his first interview with the Orlando Sentinel, Zimmerman described life after his acquittal last year in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. The former Neighborhood Watch volunteer shot the unarmed black teen in Sanford on Feb. 26, 2012.
Now life for the 30-year-old is completely different.
He's always moving.
He's in debt.
And he's constantly receiving death threats.
"I just try to be smart where I go," said Zimmerman, who described the gun show at Gander Mountain Academy as a "friendly" event that didn't warrant extra protection.
Zimmerman said he carries a semi-automatic handgun for added safety.
"It's part of life," said Zimmerman, whose Twitter feed is a constant barrage of death threats. "It's unfortunately necessary right now."(continued)

I wish I would have known about the gun show! I live right down the road and would have loved to meet George.
We're tired of defending you and all the alleged indiscretions you've been accused of...........
I wonder how many Freepers under this kind of pressure (the orchestrated hate of half of black America) could keep their noses cleaner.
This guy is a loser. Anyone who would shake his hand as if he were a hero is a fool.
Please explain your thoughts.
It’s a long road between being accused of and convicted for!
Amen.
Unarmed? He had two arms and was using them to pummel Zimmerman to death by bashing his brains in on the pavement.
Are you extending him a job offer?
Since it was never covered well, and is NEVER mentioned in articles, few Americans know that he was on his back on the ground being beaten to death when he got off a single shot into Trayvon, who had him pinned and was beating him and smashing the back of his head into the ground.
Just about any person we are talking to about Trayvon is visualizing them standing and facing each other at some distance, when Zimmerman pulled his gun and killed him, and beat the legal system to get an acquittal through luck and legalisms.
zingo
A half-hero may be the best we can get
Yep. That’s the first thing I thought, too.
Expound.
Are you saying he is a fool for being an average guy shoved into an exceptionally hostile national media light and hounded relentlessly by those that wish to kill him?
He shot someone to save his own life and now faces credible life-long death-threats, suffered domestic pressures (are all that marry in stable relationships?), not to mention the legal railroading that took place to literally bury him. . .are you saying anyone could put up with all that crushing baggage without cracking some. . .or acting ‘fool’ishly?
Never mind. . .
I’m not saying that’s good, or that people shouldn’t strive for better. But sometimes it’s easy to be an armchair saint.
Hero? I shake with people I respect, maybe not even completely.
So he lost his First Amendment rights when he was arrested by the police and tried for murder? Got it!
