Pelosi: When ‘Obama Won the Election, He Took Us Out of That [Economic] Brink’
CNS News ^ | 9/19/2014 | Ali Meyer

At the Americans United rally “Hands Off Social Security & Medicare” at the Capitol on Thursday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) blamed Republicans for the economic recession of 2007-09, saying their "lack of regulation and supervision took our country to the brink, and so when President Obama won the election, he took us out of that brink.” “I know you've heard from many members of the House and Senate about the importance of the three pillars of security for America’s seniors: about Social Security, about Medicare and about Medicaid,” she said. “And I’m here to add my support to strengthening, not weakening those pillars. But I want to just take a different tack for a moment.”

Pelosi went on to recount the day that the Secretary of the Treasury and the Federal Reserve Chairman, Ben Bernanke, came to her office to discuss how financial institutions were in jeopardy and there was a meltdown in the economy.

“And I said to the chairman of the Fed, Mr. Bernanke, what do you think about what the Secretary had to say? And he said, ‘If we do not act immediately we will not have an economy by Monday.’ Thank you to the Republicans and their economic policies to undermine our economy," said Pelosi.

She continued, "If we’re concerned that they’re not there supporting Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid, we should also be concerned that they are not supporting the middle class. Their lack of regulation and supervision took our country to the brink, and so when President Obama won the election, he took us out of that brink."

The last recession officially lasted from December 2007 to June 2009, ending 5 months after Barack Obama was sworn in as president in January 2009.

“But people are still starved, they’re still uncertain,” said Pelosi. “We still have to make the fight all the time that people who do not share our values of security for our seniors and the three pillars upholding it, still want to return to the failed policies of the Bush administration of no regulation and no supervision that took us to that place.”

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), who also spoke at the rally, said, “America is on the leading edge of a retirement crisis. Families are squeezed. The last thing we need to be talking about is cutting Social Security – last thing.”

Warren stressed twice during her speech that the first premise of Social Security is that it’s about “dignity.”

“Social Security is not charity,” said Warren. “Social Security is what people worked a lifetime for. Social Security is what keeps people independent. Social Security is about eating. Social Security is about dignity and that’s why we’re here to protect it today.” “But when it comes right down to it, this is about values,” said Warren. “This is about who this country works for. This is about what we do together. And I want to start with this first premise: and that is Social Security is about the dignity of human beings. You work a lifetime, you’re entitled to retire with dignity. And that means a strong Social Security system and strong Medicare.”

“People built Social Security through their working years, we built it together, we made promises to ourselves and to each other,” she said. “And if Republicans want to break those promises, then we’re here to say we will fight you every inch of the way.”

Others in attendance who lent their support were Rep. Bruce Braley (D-Iowa), Rep. Paul Tonko (D-New York), Rep. Dina Titus (R-Nev.), Rep. Jan Schakowski (R-New York), Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), and Rep. Joe Garcia (D-Fla.).

So, the nutjob march continues. This is the operational plan for Democrats for the next 45 days: Demonize Republicans to rally their base.

The irony is that Republicans haven't threatened any cuts to SS at all this year, only Medicare. To the point, The GOP's Amazing Doublespeak On Medicare And Social Security (disregard the title...the article addresses the key point that Republicans are leaving SS alone. Rats just don't like the fact they're not falling into line to be used again).

If Rats don't lose big in November, there may be no restoring any optimism within me, as it will have been demonstrated that the truly stupid and those that manipulate them control the country 100%.

On a footnote, the Peon's comments on Social Security reverberate within my prior posting stronger than ever. It seems what I heard on the radio is part of the wider pattern of demonizing & propaganda.

Here's that posting, for what it's worth:

Social Security as a means relieve unemployment (FDR's words...not the popular meme)

Ah-hah...it seems this has already been identified as their tactic: Democrats try to tie Republicans to entitlement cuts. Elizabeth Warren has been appointed top dog in that fight, it seems.

From the OP link:

Social Security is about dignity and that’s why we’re here to protect it today.”

With that, I repeat the former, Social Security as a means relieve unemployment (FDR's words...not the popular meme).

In spite of the fact that unemployment remains a serious problem here as in every other nation, we have come to recognize the possibility and the necessity of certain helpful remedial measures. These measures are of two kinds. The first is to make provisions intended to relieve, to minimize, and to prevent future unemployment; the second is to establish the practical means to help those who are unemployed in this present emergency.

Our social security legislation is an attempt to answer the first of these questions.

President Franklin D Roosevelt, Fireside Chat: The Works Relief Program, April 28, 1935

Social Security was designed from the outset to remove the old from jobs so the young would be put to work. A grand manipulation. Since we now know we're looking at the reality of 'death panels' under nationalized health care, just how long until the elderly see 'forced retirement' to free up those McDonald's fast food & Walmart retail jobs that the elderly are so selfishly keeping from our jobless youth? How long until the government mandates retirement at Corporations under some deviant 'healthcare regulation' for the same purpose? We can't have seasoned, responsible and intelligent old farts & ladies messing up the system, now can we??? /s

Does anyone out there on SS that believes the Pelosi pernickety propaganda yet feel truly stupid? I think not. My, my, my...oh, the power of a Federal Social Security check... /s

When you are driving over a cliff spending trillions on a ramp only delays the inevitable.

Dear Nancy,

Anyone who has attained the position of Speaker of the House, and then has the unmitigated arrogance tell the American people that “we have to pass the bill so you can find out what’s in it,” should never again be taken seriously about anything.

So please just STFU. Honestly, you are as loony as the mad Queen of Hearts.

Sincerely,
Maceman

he took us out of that brink

And then he put us in a new and deeper brink that included stuffing our tax money down the pants of campaign donors, bankers and cronies.

That was a huge chunk of "walking-around money."

Washington, DC is drowning in cash, so maybe she has a point.

Funny how the economic problems began after the Democrats took over the House and Senate in 2006. They started passing laws and the next thing you knew, the economy was in the tank. Of course the Liberals’ fingerprints are all over the housing bubble/collapse too.

She's not demented. To a leftist/statist, language is a tool of the state, to be altered to fit requirements of the ideology's current narative. Facts are fungible, based upon whatever the Party needs. In Pelosi's totalitarian ideal, the purpose of history (and by extension, historians) is to serve the narrative, not the other way around.

Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) blamed Republicans for the economic recession of 2007-09

Nevermind the fact that Fannie Mae, a New Deal era FDR Government Sponsored Enterprise, was a huge factor in the crisis.

And threw us completely off into the Abyss, and we are still falling... eventually we will hit the bottom and splat. The only ones who might survive will be the last to hit the bottom and that’s because they’ll be cushioned by the ones that preceded them.

Pelosi: When ‘Obama Won the Election, He Took Us Out of That [Economic] Brink’

With all due respect, it is not that Nancy Pelosi might be insane. It is that she isn't even in the same ZIPCODE as sane. She doesn't even know sane EXISTS. She saw a movie about sanity and rushed out of the theater. She will not get on an elevator if there are more than one sane persons on it. She is a buoy of insanity in the Great Insane Sea. Sanity has never even violated her airspace. Veni, Vidi, Krazy: She came, she saw, she got insane. She tends to her insanity like a stadium tends to its playing-field grass. She often asks her husband if her insanity makes her butt look big. She spoons with her insanity at night, and whispers sweet loving coos into its ear. The Aztec God of Insanity is named Pelosiqiazotal. She considers herself a Spartan warrior, defending the Thermopylae Gap from the armies of sanity. If she was the moon, there would be a tidal buildup of insane people caused by her insanity gravity.

OT- Just surfing around and came across this: LOL

After playing his song “We Don’t Apologize For America,” (hank Jr.) Williams made his political views clear about Obama – who’s actually Christian, but whose father practiced Islam. “We’ve got a Muslim president who hates farming, hates the military, hates the U.S. and we hate him,” he told the crowd, which judging from explosion of cheers and applause – according to the Register’s reporter – probably didn’t contain many registered Democrats

“Old School, New Rules.” The album contains a track, “Take Back Our Country,” with the lyrics, “Hey Barack, pack your bags, head to Chicago, take your teleprompter with you so you’ll know where to go.”

How does one take us "out" of a brink? I don't think you can be "in" a brink.

I could be wrong.

Dr. Hans Sennholz's writings on the topic of so-called "social security" legislation--its inception, its workings, and its consequences to a formerly "free" society may be helpful in pointing out the fallacies and outright dishonesty of Pelosi and the "progressive" regressives.

See.

Another, and more recent of his columns, includes this statement:

"No political system that seizes income and wealth from some subjects and bestows them on others is ever in a stable equilibrium. And no political system can forever create a growing burden of obligations and then shift them to future generations. Sooner or later the victim generation will resent the shifting and endeavor to lighten the load. It will repudiate it via inflation or other default devices." - Prof. Hans Sennholz, Here.

To be clear, I never called her ‘insane’.

But you are right. While imho she may not be the black hole of insanity, she’s definitely in the event-horizon category.

Her own reality, as it is, and that of those that follow this pied piper of stupidity...(the perfect front-woman)

Which once again begs the question: At what point have we hit critical mass with stupid people? Or have we really crossed the rubicon?
