One in three Americans cant name a single branch of the U.S. government, according to a poll from the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania.
The survey, which was conducted from July 8 to 14, and published Sept. 17, found that only 36 percent of respondents could name all three branches of government, while an alarming 35 percent of survey respondents couldnt name a single branch.
The poll, which contains a margin of error of plus or minus 3.06 percent, surveyed 1,416 U.S. adults aged 18 and older.
The report also found that only 27 percent of respondents say they are aware Congress needs a two-thirds majority in order to override a presidential veto.
Lastly, 21 percent of survey respondents believe that a 5-4 decision from the U.S. Supreme Court is sent back to Congress for further discussion and reconsideration.
Although surveys reflect disapproval of the way Congress, the President and the Supreme Court are conducting their affairs, the Annenberg survey demonstrates that many know surprisingly little about these branches of government, Kathleen Hall Jamieson, the polling groups director, said in a statement. This survey offers dramatic evidence of the need for more and better civics education.
Two more findings from the survey:
Asked which party has the most members in the House of Representatives, 38 percent said they knew the Republicans are the majority, but 17 percent responded the Democrats and 44 percent reported that they did not know (up from 27 percent who said they did not know in 2011).
Asked which party controls the Senate, 38 percent correctly said the Democrats, 20 percent said the Republicans and 42 percent said they did not know (also up from 27 percent who said they did not know in 2011).
In short, the republic is doomed. Doomed.
The money is achieving the results intended. The leftist leadership wants plebes.
Yes.
Yeah, but ask about justin beeber’s latest exploit and they all know.
We heard 10,000,000 during the Reagan Years. Plenty of time to raise 2.5 kids per couple. Are the children of illegals legal? There has been a steady flow across the border since.
Only with government and communism is failure meant to require more funding... like a stubborn ponzy schemer.

We are doomed and cannot regain what we have lost - He has made the edict and His Word will be done.
We can gyrate around and get excited about politics and the destruction of the moral fiber that used to bind things together, but we cannot set things right. Knowing this helps me sleep at night because I feel helpless to try to right the wrongs being committed against us by the Left and those who support it.
Were the word ‘lastly’ an animal I would take it out behind the barn and shoot it.

Never mind 500 years. We are already there. Welcome to Idiocracy.
Thanks for playing though, and please accept this home version of our game.
Actually, and seriously now, the three branches of government are:
1. The People
2. The Several States
3. Federal
Says so right in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. These are the three due to Federalism as the backbone.
It's not the current state of education that's at fault, after all, they don't survey children. My kids are 14 and 15 years old and they and their friends (the ones that come here anyway) know the answers to all those questions but many of my friends probably would not and I'm 69 years old.
Many people remain ignorant because they just don't care.
I live in New York state and most retired teachers I am acquainted with voted for Obama and many spend the winter in Florida.
Got to look at the positive side of where your money goes./S/
Then, I'd hide it behind the, "at".
The original contention was ...
One in three Americans can't name a single branch of the U.S. government... so would, I think, be looking only at what you denominated "3. Federal."
Yep, I was stretching the question a bit, from US government to just plain “government”.
So, a bit facetious... but makes a point.
Once it is possible for those without ‘skin in the game’ to vote, the outcome is inevitable. It may be quick or slow, but inevitable.
We spend those billions so as to produce those results. Those results are exactly the point of federal control over education.
That is an ill-rational conclusion, the survey results just say what we have long known from on the spot interviews. Most people particularly New Yorkers are profoundly ignorant and disinterested in the details of their country.
This is more a statement of the distractions of everyday life than anything else. The problem is when theses people are coned into voting without bothering to make themselves informed.
The long and short answer is theses people will only take the time to get informed when things start to get back from them and it is obviously the Governments fount. Until then their own personal lives and jobs take up all their attention and time and frankly that is a highly desirable way to live, even thou its a bit civily shortsighted.
