Two U.S. jets intercepted six Russian planes that neared U.S. airspace off Alaska on Thursday and Canadian planes intercepted two Russian bombers that approached Canadian airspace, NORAD reported.
A U.S. official told CNN's Barbara Starr that officials in Washington think the incidents were related to the visit by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, who talked to Canadian officials Wednesday and President Barack Obama on Thursday. The United States promised Ukraine $46 million in nonlethal aid for its battle with pro-Russian militants.
The Russian aircraft flew within about 55 nautical miles of the Alaskan coastline and about 40 nautical miles of the Canadian coastline, said Capt. Jeff Davis of the North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD.

Keep it up Putin and we will bomb you into the 12th century and shoot all your vast air force out of existence ... oh, wait, Obama is in office, never mind.
Is Putin the new Stalin?
Too bad our interceptors aren’t equipped fast-drying florescent pink paint that we can release on them ala Sheriff Joe Arpaio!
Hey Kathy maybe Vlady is new deckhand for Deadliest catch LOL!
We, the Free World, will have to face up to the fact that Russian violation of our airspace no longer can be seen as a set of single incidents.
We must recognize an obvious pattern.
By giving Ukraine 46 large, are we defacto declaring war on Russia? Why didn”t we give that earmarked to the Intl Red Cross or to NATO?
For a pres..ent that ran on not being the daddy policeman of the world, he’s sure spread us thin lately - Somalia + pointsunknown in Africa/ Afganistan/Iraq/Kurdistan/ Ukraine?
How many of our new illegals intend to dig deep, soldier up and fight?
And then we come to Georgia and Ukraine.
And people wonder why citizens of Poland and the Balkans are frightened beyond belief.
This is so silly. As soon as I read the headline I knew it was near Alaska. This stuff has been happening for many decades.
As much as they made fun of Sarah about the “seeing Russia from my back porch” quote - she was just about right.
Canada Ping!
As far as I know, the scheduled overflights of the USA haven’t been ended.
“This stuff has been happening for many decades.”
- So the Russians are just a bunch of pranksters after all?
Maybe it’s time to give Alaska back.
Maybe its time to give Alaska back.
Don't give Barry any ideas. Remember Jimmah Carter gave away the Panama Canal.
5.56mm
Vlad the new Uncle Joe (Stalin)?
46 Billion from we borrowed from china
Twitting the “opposing forces” is something all nations Air Forces do to each other. Nothing new. Not a major concern.
Some poor salaried OIC/NCOIC is forced to get dressed, go to the command post, and officially tell both sides to knock it off.
Then numerous military members get to waste days evaluating which, if any side, did something of any intelligence value beyond simple routine pointless posturing for political/civilian propaganda gains. Russian Bears were the worst! Dumb b--tards always came up empty, but they are pilots, and don't really care if the pointless propaganda mission works, as long as they get to fly an aircraft! The USAF is slightly more sophisticated, and does not generally allow bombers to buzz opposing forces.
We do give our fighter pilots much more leeway...which is why it's harder to become a fighter pilot than a bomber pilot.
My uncle said it other day that Vlady try be A Russia Tsar wantbe or Uncle Joe Stalin
- If you do not succeed in running the World as a president of the United States of America, there is always a Nobel Peace Prize in store for you.
(And if you're Al Gore a mere attempt at that office will do.)
Actually yes this very first time Russians were in long time was messing with border of Alaska
