If passed, the legislation would dissolve the duties of ATF to the FBI and DEA. The ATF is the "F Troop" that nobody wants.
They are the Rodney Dangerfield of the Alphabet Agencies.
They have been bounced from Treasury to the IRS to the FBI back to the IRS, back to Treasury, etc., etc.
Finally, after the post 9/11 reorganization, they landed at the Justice Department as the BATFE.
They are the main scoundrels behind the slaughters at Ruby Ridge and Waco.

Dissolving the bureau isn’t enough ... we need to repeal the “laws” (NFA ‘34, GCA ‘68, FOPA ‘86) that they “enforce” ... they’re unconstitutional and bad public policy. Sending enforcement to the FBI or whatever doesn’t really address the problem.
To: NorthMountain
Yep...we can start with repealing 18 USC 922(o)....and then work up to repeal Chapter 4 of the GCA, then the entire GCA and NFA.

The very fact that such a bill is even being suggested dramatically displays how bad things with the ATF have gotten.

Sensenbrenner is all about being anti-gun. He must be in a bad way for reelection.

About ten years ago, there was a suggestion to fold BATFE into the Marshal Service. The head U.S. Marshal responded this way:
"What do you get when you mix clean water with dirty water? Answer: DIRTY WATER!" We don't want 'em!" And that pretty much settled the issue.

My thoughts exactly. Get rid if the NFA, and GCA. This needs to be the focus off the Gun Lobby. Stop playing defense. The NRA and the gun lobby needs to take some lessons from Knife Rights. Go on offense. Accept nothing but full repeal of the NFA and GCA.

Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms should be a convenience store and not a government agency.

Huh. Someone accidentally added 5 extra words to this bill: “to the FBI and DEA.” Why? Why does someone need to start doing all the stuff that the BATFE has been doing? Virtually nothing the BATFE has ever done has been legal or constitutional; why do we need to have a different agency committing illegal and unconstitutional acts? The few things the BATFE was doing that were actually legal already cross over into the FBI’s jurisdiction, so there’s no reason to drag the FBI down into the muck by putting the rest of the ATF’s baggage on them.

They are the main scoundrels behind the slaughters at Ruby Ridge and Waco. They were the insigators of both, but the FBI was the one that pulled the trigger on the folks in Waco when they decided everyone had to die.
