Two polls released Monday show Democratic U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan opening up a lead over Republican challenger Thom Tillis.
Raleigh polling firm American Insights, which has Republican ties, had Hagan with a 9 percentage point lead among likely voters, while Elon University Poll gives Hagan a 4-point lead.
The polls are the latest in a string showing Hagan gaining ground in the campaign.
Of likely voters surveyed by American Insights, 43 percent said they would back Hagan, 34 percent said they backed Tillis, the current state House speaker, and 5 percent backed Libertarian Sean Haugh.
"The race has unmistakably shifted towards Sen. Hagan in recent days," said Pearce Godwin, insights director for American Insights, which has Republican ties. "This poll is a continuation and affirmation of the recent trend in her direction. But there is still a lot of time left on the clock, and I would not be surprised if this volatile race shifts back to a jump ball between now and November."
Although the near double-digit lead for Hagan is eye-catching, it's worth noting that the result is still just within the margin or error with regard to likely voters. While the American Insights results confirm a trend seen in other polls, it is still something of an outlier, giving Hagan more of a lead over Tillis than those other polls have shown.

It’s because Mr. Tillis is running a cocoa puff campaign whe Mrs. Hagan is running aggressive. He hasn’t even answered her dishonest education ads.
Bingo we have a winner. Dems can count on 90%+ of the Black vote, 70% of the Hispanic vote, 70% of the Asian vote, 60% of the young single women vote and 50% of the total women vote. Not much left for our side to pick from.
It's the only math we/I've used since Reagan left the building and explains why all DC butts smell about the same, no matter what the suffix letter.

More and more you get the idea that the goal is not to defeat the DEMOCRAT, but to defeat the CONSERVATIVE.
That having been accomplished, there seems to no longer be any enthusiasm to win
The issue I think we’re seeing is money.
Republicans had pretty bloody (read: expensive) primary campaigns. Plus the national GOP committees aren’t pulling in what they need to because Conservatives are ticked off.
On top of that, the national GOP has apparently plowed $100 million into a GOTV system to counter the Dem’s Narwal, but hopefully not die a brutal election day death like Orca did in 2012.
Koch $$$ can only go so far. Esp when you consider that they are 60th on the list of political spending and have 20 different unions spending more than they do. Plus all the Soros-backed groups, etc.
Funding isn’t the only thing; it’s everything. And between ticked off Conservatives AND a closely linked network of Dem alinged groups that act as money sponges and spigots, the GOP seriously sucks at it right now.
She was a force in selling the idea, and she was a strong force in backing up the President's outright falsehoods in the "If you want to keep your doctor, . . . .," and all the other lies since. As a matter of fact there are videos showing her mouthing these misleading and outright falsehoods to voters.
Every family of a cancer patient who was forced to struggle with looking for a new insurance policy because of those lies should publicize the real-life consequences of Hagan's complicity in voting for and supporting the so-called "Affordable" Care Act. The whole thing was a dishonest Trojan Horse scheme to take over a significant part of the economy. It had nothing to do with "helping" people, "affordable" care, or improving the lives of citizens. It was a government power grab, and Hagan supported it all the way!.

Here is where your straw argument is flawed. The DC butts mostly smell bad, but you are wrong in saying they smell the same. They do not. Stage 1 cancer is not stage 4 cancer. If you've had cancer, you understand this.
Second, a vote for Tillis is not Socialism light. He's running a dumb bass campaign, and he's not great, but he is no where close to socialism light.
To understand when it's time to let a Democrat win, and when it's NOT such a time, takes apparently more discernment than you have. This is not the time, and this is not the race. Cochran? Yeah. McConnell? Probably. But not THIS one.
This is a winning strategy! More, please. Insulting your fellow voters brings US closer.

If you have cancer, you'll want to avoid things that promote or facilitate the growth of that cancer.
It's better to substitute those things with things that attack the cancer, instead.
Unfortunately, it's often difficult to tell if something promotes the cancer's growth, attacks the cancer or is neutral.
Usually, those sorts of choices all promote the cancer's growth.
That's why bold choices where there is no doubt are better. Oh well...maybe next time.

Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals. Every conservative candidate should read that book several times.
I can’t disagree with you; Gillespie is sleep-walking through the campaign and is acting more like a sacrificial lamb instead of a serious candidate. Apparently, someone promised Ed a senior level post or an ambassadorship in the next GOP administration, if he agreed to run—and lose—to Warner.
The internecine warfare in the Virginia GOP is sickening. The GOP-E turned its back on Ken Cuccinelli last year and this time around, the Tea Party is returning the favor by ignoring Ed Gillespie. The party needs to find someone (perhaps Congressman Randy Forbes) who can bridge the gap and win a statewide race. Forbes is an expert on maritime issues and naval shipbuilding, which in critically important in Virginia. Unfortunately, I don’t think Forbes has any ambitions beyond his Congressional seat.
The teacher/education carp seems to reliably bring the Dem. vote over the line. Several ads are accusing Tillis of cutting teacher aids, the education budget and text books. What happened to the “education” lottery money???
