University of Miami President Donna Shalala says she will retire next year.
Shalala informed members of the school's board of trustees of her decision Monday. The 73-year-old Shalala has led Miami since 2001, overseeing two major fundraising campaigns that will eventually bring a total of $3 billion to the school....

She did hire Pat Richter who returned to the University of Wisconsin–Madison as athletic director in 1989 after 17 years service as Vice President of Personnel at Oscar Mayer Foods Corp., recruited by then-chancellor Donna Shalala.

Was that true, I asked? My doctor friend then told of how soon after she started at the U. of Miami med school, she met Shalala at a university sponsored cocktail party that mixed med students, med school faculty, and senior university administrators. At the function, Shalala joined a small group of women med students and, after routine introductions and asking if they were being treated well, Shalala quickly zeroed in on an especially attractive woman med student.
Soon, Shalala was carrying on a conversation as if she and the good-looking woman med student were the only two people present, with Shalala asking detailed biographical and personal questions. Finally, the young med student's boyfriend arrived and was introduced as such to a visibly disappointed and irked Shalala, who then asked, "So, are you two serious or just f--- buddies?" The shocked looks that ensued prompted Shalala to say that she was just joking and to hustle off in search of more available prey.

Back when Miami was a top team all management commented about was how many penalties they made. They finally got a team that makes fewer penalties.
