Right: its time to speak for Britain. If these polls are right, then we are on the verge of an utter catastrophe for this country. In just 10 days time we could all be walking around like zombies on both sides of the Scottish border.
I dont just mean that we will be in a state of shock, though that will obviously be true: most people (especially the Scots) have yet to think through the horrific financial and constitutional implications of an English-Scottish divorce.
I mean that we will be zombies, walking dead, because a fundamental part of our identity will have been killed. We will all have lost a way of thinking about ourselves, a way of explaining ourselves to the world. We are on the verge of trashing our global name and brand in an act of self-mutilation that will leave our international rivals stunned, gleeful and discreetly scornful.

I would view this in a slightly different manner. Big governments don’t represent residents anymore....they represent lobbyists and agendas.
I would agree....the British military will rapidly downsize within four years if this goes through, and barely have a ground force and a marginal navy. I also think they’d have to give up their UN permanent seat on the security council, and the G7 conferences would fall in the future (it never had any positive contributions anyway).
Do the math....there are a minimum of five different European countries serious about breaking off. This is simply the first step. I’d expect Ottawa to revisit their episode, and for some state or two of Mexico to get serious about this over the next decade. Big doesn’t necessarily mean better....it never did.
I think the whole vote is one not based on Scotland v’s England or not wanting to be British. It is about the same thing that drives up the UKIP vote. It is about being ruled rather than being served, it is about being told that Islam is good and we must tolerate their evil religion, it is about the government’s of this world being more answerable to the great leftist movements (see UN/EU) or the biggest banks and businesses, it’s about having new moralities forced down their throats - it is in fact a vote against where they find themselves in the world. If I could vote my State (South Australia) away from the rest of my country in the self delusional belief that it would turn back the clock to something I know was once better then I would do that. I can’t - the Scots might think they can - I think they will be disappointed no matter the result of the vote!
I suspect last ditch scare tactics will become increasing intense in these last few days.

That is what I don’t get; so Scotland decides to determine their own life and way of living and some how this is some major issue or drama or Shakespearean tragedy of Biblical proportions? The world isn’t ending, it’s just change as always.
Yes they will, with the commercials and such getting more and more dire.
“Big doesnt necessarily mean better....it never did.”
This will be a blow to the communist one-world-state folks. During an economic downturn in Texas about thirty years ago an economist made the argument that an independent Texas could easily recover by having control over its own currency and economic policies. But it was hopelessly tied to national currency and policies that were damaging its recovery. (The author worked through each national policy and how it hurt Texas.)
On the other hand, being too small is bad also. This is what lead to world war 1. Each country, to survive, aligned itself with others. Then, like NATO today, when one was attacked they all got dragged into war.
Huge would be just fine if it weren’t for people who get into power with agendas that are, essentially, anti-human.
The UK's problem isn't that they are about to lose Scotland. It's that they lost England a long time ago.
We will all have lost a way of thinking about ourselves, a way of explaining ourselves to the world.”
Um...you did that a LONG time ago....
This article is actually fascinating. Boris really only talks about culture, not politics or political union.
Would that they had spared British culture a long time ago, before embracing everything that is socialistic, gay and Muslim.
Time to take back those 13 colonies also! /sarc
