U.S. expands attacks on Islamic State as Iraqi forces move to reclaim villages near Haditha

The United States on Sunday expanded its air war against Islamic extremists in Iraq, sending fighter jets to attack targets near the Haditha Dam in coordination with ground forces from the Shiite Muslim-dominated Iraqi military and local Sunni Muslim tribes.

The U.S. Central Command in Tampa, Florida, said in a statement that U.S. combat aircraft destroyed four Islamic State Humvees, four armed vehicles, two of which were carrying anti-aircraft artillery, one fighting position, and one command post.

It’s not clear whether the collaboration, coordinated by the U.S. military with the Shiite-dominated central government, will set a precedent.

Still, the timing of the operation was fortuitous for President Barack Obama, who’s under growing political pressure to devise an effective strategy for countering the Islamic State both in Iraq and in Syria.

Obama has consistently sided withe the wrong factions in the Mid East. He wouldn’t do anything now if ISIS retreated back into Syria.

It is a disgrace that all these innocents deaths could have been prevented if the WH had done what it should have done in the first place, make a decision to fight.

I know Obama wants to lead from behind, but I also know cowardice when I see it.

What happened to the apparent administration requirement that every event must be described as for humanitarian purposes? Shouldn’t the story read: “U.S. combat aircraft destroyed four Islamic State Humvees for humanitarian purposes, four armed vehicles for humanitarian purposes, two of which were carrying anti-aircraft artillery, one fighting position for humanitarian purposes, and one command post for humanitarian purposes”?

Under what authority are these unilateral attacks taking place?

Why are we not using sanctions instead?

Has the UN voted to authorise the strikes?

Is there an immenant threat to the US?

I guess the media only makes these points when the pres has an (R) next to his name.
