In January 2010, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down a key decision in the case of Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. The decision removed unconstitutional restrictions on the ability to speak freely at election time of grassroots groups like NRA and others. But now, some are trying to reverse the decision--and while they recognize that they must amend the Constitution to do so, their amendment would gut the First Amendment rights of organized political groups as we know them.
The late Sen. Paul Wellstone had said during the original debate over the legislation at issue in Citizens United that it was his intention to silence groups like the NRA. While Wellstone singled out the NRA, this law delivered a clear message to all American citizens: "Keep your mouths shut and stay out of our politics."
The court declared unconstitutional the parts of the law that had been enacted for the explicit purpose of silencing the NRA and its members. Of course, the gun-banners in the White House and Congress opposed the decision because it thwarted their plans.

Reid lost his BEST REPUBLICAN last June when Cantor was unhorsed in his Primary.
Apparently Cantor was on board with joining the DEMOCRATS in “overturning” Supreme Court decisions that went against the liberals.
Bottom line...don’t worry too much here, but never drop your guard either.
Pure treason.
I will piss on his grave if he gets one. Chances are they’ll cremate the traitor.
This is purely a PR stunt.
The Dems are waiting for the next Supreme Court appointment to permanently shift the balance to the progressive wing. At that point the Supremes will rewrite the Constitution case by case.
Traitor.
i doubt we’re gonna take that one sitting down.
even with all the big brother technology if millions act the same day attrition favors the millions.
Senile.
“...Reid has zero idea how Constitutional amendments happen...”
Uh...by executive order, right?
Did Hitler, Lenin, or Stalin have to bother with a constitution...?
Fidel certainly doesn’t have to - so why should Harry Reid?
If the Congress is firmly under control of the Pubes/Conservatives, the USSC then becomes a lame duck court. Screw em!
“If the Congress is firmly under control of the Pubes/Conservatives, the USSC then becomes a lame duck court. Screw em!”
A Republican Congress is not necessarily a conservative Congress, particularly when led by Boehner and McConnnell. McConnell is on the record of saying he will restore the filibuster. If he does, Reid will be able to block everything the Republicans try to do.
Don’t forget, Republican Senators voted for both Sotomayor and Kagan. Ginsburg was confirmed with only 3 Republicans voting no, even though she was the general counsel for the ACLU!
The left demands free speech so it is free to say all manner of destructive and libertine things, but the instant that a conservative group has an effective public voice, the left will move heaven and earth to shut them up.
Douchebag
How true. I was thinking similarly when I posted this, but also thought that the Pubes that lack backbone would then be swayed again by the majority. But yes, it is a wildcard.
