U.S. President Barack Obama says the U.S. military would help in the fight against the Ebola virus in West Africa, which has killed more than 2,000 people.
Speaking on NBC's Meet the Press, Obama said U.S. military assets were needed to set up isolation units and equipment, and provide security for international health workers. He said he believed the United States needed to make dealing with the Ebola outbreak a national security priority.
He warned that it would still take months to control the epidemic and said that if efforts were not made now the outbreak could spread across Africa and around the world.
Meanwhile, authorities in Sierra Leone are ordering people to stay at home for three days this month as part of an effort to stop the spread of the Ebola virus, which has killed more than 2,000 people in West Africa.

Yes, make western Africa an isolation ward. Shoot down all planes attempting to fly out, sink all ships attempting to flee, and blow up all land vehicles attempting to leave the isolation ward.
I think Americans need to pay attention to this.
Get prepared. Everyone, take basic preparations for supporting yourself, for some amount of time.
Just saying. I think that’s always a good idea, but I think it’s important at the moment.
sadly I don’t think that’s what he meant. I see him putting our military in harms way to rescue people.
The military wont be able to fight the ISIS virus the way they are trained but they can go to Africa and be exposed to an unseen virus?
I think a Community Organizer would be better in organizing a group of native Africans to set up these medical facilities so send the highest paid (include vacation expenses) community organizer in the US.
Anyone seen the Navy commercial ?
It states on it that they are there to protect democracies around the world bla bla.
nothing about protecting here or the constitution.
The whole military has been changed and unless Cruz or Palin ever get in the white house in two years then the military will be destroyed for ever
Good to see that out Commander in Chief won’t put troops on our southern doing the relatively simple task of doing what the military was designed to do - defend our country.
But he will put them across the ocean into the middle of the nastiest medical hellhole on earth, where they could contract arguably the most fearsome disease yet known to mankind.
What a leader.
Yup.
Saw it.
Was appalled.
Active Duty ping.
Hussein has no loyalty to the US. He proclaimed himself a “citizen of the world” in 2008. No joke. He really did.
GReat idea, let’s just potentially expose thousands of our troops to ebola and boko haram and other dark forces.
What a brilliant guy that Obama IS!
A day late! A dollar short!
But does he miss a tee time? No sirree!
It’s a Nobelian gesture, at best, didn’t Emperors make gestures to their subjects now and then. Lower tax rates, etc. ? Lol
NO! That is NOT what our military is for.
I see him putting our military in harms way to rescue people.
I guess he’s sacked all the Admirals and Generals who would stand up to him.
if he did this we probably won’t be seeing any more photo ops of Him and his wifey anywhere close to the military.
“He said he believed the United States needed to make dealing with the Ebola outbreak a national security priority.”
Rather than, say, simply uphold immigration laws that keep the infected out and let their own governments - and taxpayers - handle it.
How much did President Bush commit to spending in Africa?
15 billion, a lot to fight aids.
That should have built a lot of local centers much like our VA hospital system. Not spartan but functional.
How much will be pissed away this time?
If African leaders grew some nuts and quit stealing the loot, we wouldn’t need to be called for help every dang day.
He looks haggard cuz he travels so dang much. And he eats what Moochelle tells him too.. Most of the time. School kids won’t eat her menu.
Thank goodness Val Jar is running things. Thru Iran.
Obama finally getting behind boots on the ground. Dipwad!
