Obama administration moved Thursday to restrict prescriptions of the most commonly used narcotic painkillers in the U.S. in an attempt to curb widespread abuse.

I grew up in an area where the usage of illegal drugs is high and have seen the destruction of families and communities because of, not so much the drugs themselves, but the classification of the drugs. The higher the classification the more criminals the government has available to bleed.
I have had a broke back, bulging discs, degenerative disc disease, arthritis of the spine and everywhere else, sciatic nerve problems resulting from my back problems, if I was a horse they would have already taken me out and shot me.
Watched a guy get out of a truck and saw how gingerly he did it and asked if he had back problems. We got into a conversation about our various back problems, he had had a couple of back surgeries also, and it turned out that we had the same problems, only real difference was he had 40 extra pounds on his gut. He told me they would only give him 4 or 5 Percocets/day, he asked me what I took, I told him Bayer aspirin. He seemed baffled and asked me how I coped. I told him I kept moving and dropped a lot of weight. I also refused the surgery.
I worked in a coal mine from a young age and when you are a mile underground and hit a finger with a hammer you don’t cry and run home to mommy, you curse, put some electrical tape on it and go on. You can deal with your pain or you can become a junkie, it is really that simple.
Spare me the my pain is worse than yours bull, cause it aint. I chose to deal with mine, not depend on some doc to keep me doped up. Man up or stay on the porch.
Are you serious? We are not talking about a sore muscle or a little owie here. The sort of deep damage for which people receive oxycodone is a different order of magnitude. It's clear you've never experienced that level of agony. I hope you never do.
He told me to sit down in a chair and lean forward. He sprayed my back with a very cold spray and then rub it right where the nerve would be. I got up like I had never had a back problem in my life. Sports trainers in high school, college, and Pro levels use the technique when a players nerve pinches or a muscle won't release. That's why you see them come back in after a few minutes.
That said this is not the same as nerve damage which can vary to very great extremes from person to person. Also persons tolerance levels are different and it's rather stupid of some who are saying By Golly I got up and got moving so By Golly you can too nonsense.
Where the damage is, the internals of the CNS and how the brain itself translates it can mean everything. So can an eighth of a inch in location.
A lot of people don't realize this but even quadriplegics can often feel pain throughout their body although they may or may not be able to pin point the exact location of exactly where. A minor issue such a being touched somewhere can cause them to scream in pain yet a surgery they may not request much post op medication. Each person is different that's the way GOD made us.
They are not addictive if you have paid. Otherwise yes they are addictive.
Whether or not someone needs pain pills is a medical decision and the politicians should stay out of it.
Delodid too
Look at “denatured” alcohol that you buy in a hardware store as a solvent or marine stove fuel.
The government mandates that the ethanol (drinking alcohol) that is 95% of it be mixed with methanol (makes you go blind or kills you) or gasoline to ‘denature’ it lest someone drink it without paying taxes.
Yes, they would maim or kill you for not paying taxes.
To no one in particular
Funny how the elites of either party (but especially Demonrats) will never have to worry about getting whatever they want or need. Since some people abuse drugs, the nanny state tyrants are going to punish all people. How is that right or just?
Concur.
Everyone reacts a little differently. However, as a rule, long term chronic Benzodiazepine use is way more dangerous then narcotic use. People who withdraw from narcs may FEEL like they are going to die, but they won’t. Vomiting, anxiety, sweats, diarrhea, muscle aches, intense cravings yup. None of those can kill kill. People who withdraw from benzos CAN and do die. Intractable seizures, delirium, can kill. So if you use benzos daily and decide to stop, I would suggest withdrawal slowly under a doctors supervision.
The bigger issue is the medical system in this country doesn't allow enough time to be devoted to patients to properly manage the use of these drugs.
It is very easy to be in pain and find yourself being accused of drug seeking when you are trying to find relief.
the ultimate solution is a complex one! but rest assured the government will find a solution which harms the most innocent people.
OxyContin costs more and is harder for addicts to get than heroin. Raising the bar on prescription opiates while doing nothing about the $10 bags of heroin will herd the addicts straight to heroin.
I think the story behind the story is this. Most of America is just fine w/o this regulation. They know how to conduct their affairs w/o behind lead by the nose. Its the welfare types and scammers that go the the pain meds clinics and leach the medicare system to get pain meds for resale. Its a well known FACT medicare is billions in the hole b/c of this and that the pain med clinics could be shut down IF the govt wanted it to be so. Guess thats too much effort....
Psychological addiction may be different, but avoiding physical addiction to narcotics doesn't seem much different than managing physical addiction to alcohol. When you start building up a tolerance, it's time to back off.
Not just pain pills, but things like Valium. We are under DOD MANDATE for our meds. Only 2 places to get them Military base or the fraud committing Express Scripts, both very cumbersome processes. Unless it is an emergency antibiotic or a 1 time script from your doctor. Other wise we have to pick up full cost instead of co-pay like we did in the past. Express Scripts just puts nearly $2K worth of meds in our unprotected mail box, un Photo ID Signed for. We have a lot of kids in the neighborhood. It will take an act of congress to change the procedure I was told when I called my congress critter and complained about it.
This is what you get with total government control of your health care. Medicare and Tricare Life (Ret. Military over 65) they restrict test, procedures, nerve blocks are now 3 per year. ALL FOR YOUR OWN GOOD. I LOATH the NANNY Serfdom, that has been forced on us.
When they forced Lore tabs to lower the Tylenol they changed not only the color of the pills, but some of the fillers. I reacted badly to the first tablet of what is now called NORCO. And the 5 mg tab they call white, is not white, off white with red flecks. Still made me nauseous that over rode anti-nausea med. And this pain med is the most prescribed pain pill.
I didn't have a problem with getting off the pain mess, but I have sympathy for those that do.
Lortav, Norco, and Vicodin are all combinations of hydrocodone and acetaminophen. Just different amounts.
“This will put Vicodin/Hydrocodone in the same classification as Oxycodone(OxyContin) and Morphine, ect. COMPLETELY wrong headed and stupid. The DEA already has providers so scared/intimidated to prescribe these types of medicines, patients that are literally suffering can barely get any help.”
I have been taking Vicodin for years for my shoulders. One before bed helped me get to sleep. All the injections over the years did squat to help me. Last time I went to my doctor he said no more Vicodin. Gave me Ibuprofen 800’s that don’t help at all. Said if I want Vicodin I have to go to a pain management center.
So I did. Gave them my history, my prescriptions, my injection dates, my physical therapy treatment history. They look at everything and ask me what I am looking to accomplish. I said simply sleep, since my shoulders will never get any better. They write me a prescription for Ibuprofen and if that doesn’t work they will start on injections and physical therapy.
Wtf?????
So now along with controlling your use of Sudafed the DEA is going to control the amount of pain killers you can take.
Get the DEA out of our medicine cabinets and out of our lives.
Snip: “If youre treating someone with a condition so painful they require treatment with a highly addictive drug, thats someone who should be monitored closely, said Andrew Kolodny, chief medical officer for the nonprofit addiction treatment organization Phoenix House, who campaigned for the change for five years.”
And who do you propose should monitor the monitors Mr Kolodny? Who monitors you, Mr Kolodny, to make sure your decisions and campaigning are in accordance with the overlord’s rules?
