It’s, as always, unbearable reading the British right wing as it is reading the British left wing. They are very different from our right wing and I hope most Americans know that.

I think Francois Revel wrote about that in “Anti-Americanism”. If the British right are anything like the European right (and I'm not sure it is) then the right is indeed different than what we think. The right there is critical of immigration, but is also very very anti-American and antisemitic. Sort of a goosestepping right wing.

That’s the reason UKIP is ascendant and striking fear into the hearts of so-called British conservatives.
