"Columbus Day" is a relic from when Italians were at the same level Dominicans and Ecuadorians are today and needed a sense of "belonging" in an often hostile, foreign culture. Now, since the majority of folks of Italian ancestry are 1) Mixed with other ethnicities, 2) Are largely in white collar occupations and 3) have zero connection to Italy other than a last name, there will be no crying about this other than from the grey hairs at UNICO and the Sons of Italy.

"Ethnic Pride" is the refuge of sad sacks who have nothing else to be proud of in terms of personal achievement. You don't see the Jews having Jewish Pride day do you?

If you ever end up discussing global warming with a liberal, ask them if they know what 'glacial till' is.

I did this in a climate debate last year in Jefferson County. The smart liberal could help but show the people he knew everything about everything as he said: "Glacial Till occurred over hundreds of thousands of years. As glaciers were moved by gravity ever so slowly they broke rock formations apart and moved the smaller pieces with them. As they reached lower altitudes where it is warmer they would melt and deposit the rock...".

At that point his voice drifted off as he realized he was painting himself into a corner and he started talking about how this process that has been going on forever has accelerated hundreds of times over because of manufacturing and diesel trucks.
