Someone is teaching these kids to target old white people.
And those felonies they have been arrested for before are the ones we know about, not telling how many were unreported or undiscovered.
There is no need to “teach” a “Street Rat”, its what they do. They see frailty and weakness and pounce at the opportunity. No, you don't need to teach them, it's second nature for them.

His name is Fagin
The more things change, the more they remain the same
“Someone is teaching these kids”
I remember hearing a school teacher tell about a conversation with a young black child about the reason he was late for school.
He said “my daddy’s car wouldn’t start and I had to wait until he went out and stole a battery”.
He said it to the teacher. These kids are being raised with the idea that theft is OK.
While they were probably looking for someone to rob, an elderly woman with a purse entering a store sounds like either a strategy (i.e. They’ve done it before or since) or a target of opportunity. Given their pasts, I’m guessing it’s the former.
