Californias economic recovery has featured a growing share of lower-wage jobs, raising concerns about the opportunities for middle-class workers hit hard by the Great Recession, a new analysis finds.
The California Budget Project, a nonprofit economic research group, analyzed decades of state labor data to find that low- and middle-wage workers have seen significant pay declines over the last decade.
Local and state government jobs -- traditionally a reliable source of middle-class employment -- have been particularly slow to recover.

Looking ahead, low-wage jobs are forecast to be one of the fastest-growing segments of the workforce. The state expects food service and preparation jobs -- with a median wage of $9.37 an hour last year -- to produce the largest number of new jobs by 2015 for any occupation, according to numbers from the California Employment Development Department.

Businesses are running as thought thier a##es are on fire and the article reads low wages slow growth. 15 dollar an hr burgerking employees should fix this. Effects of the drug culture in the 60’s comes home to roost
Everybody knows that frees stuff stimulates the economy like nothing else - didn’t Pelosi claim that for every dollar of unemployment benefits handed out, a buck thirty five was returned to the economy?
> before you read the article, I’ll warn you now, the solution proposed is not recognition that illegals drive wages down, not a push for immigration enforcement, but, yes, even more ‘free stuff’
Aaaah yes, the geniuses that brought us Obama have another solution and it’s that white men dig deeper into their pockets for gibmedats. How about removing Obama from office? Repeal Obamacare and Obama and you would see the economy do a complete 180.

All I had to read was the title of the article and see that it was the LATimes. You don’t have to be prescient to know the rest and where this article was going.
Facts don’t disturb liberals.

How does one have any $ left over for wage growth after all the taxes and regulations? Sometimes I really wonder how stupid these leftists can be.
...and the long term problem is, The President wants bi-partisan stupidity.
That headline makes as much sense as “Plane too close to ground in crash, experts say.”
More bennies.
More mehhicccans.
MANY more mehhicccccccans!!!!
That’ll fix it.
And the leftist in this God forsaken State just voted to raise raised the State gas tax to fight Climate change. Impact expected to be another 20 - 40 cents a gallon. They just banned plastic grocery bags, not sure when that starts. And undoubtedly at some point will then force markets to charge for paper bags. And they claim they are worried about the poor and middle class stuck here.
They just invited more illegals into the state. I hope they stay in Cali.
there is no California recovery.
This is what happens when leftists have a supermajority in congress, the governors office, and the news media. Insanity.
It is RACIST to impose SLAVE WAGES on LEGAL IMMIGRANTS and Minorities by flooding the labor market with ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS.
The problem of economic recovery in California can be solved by forcefully implementing progressive Democratic party programs:
1. Increase wages by raising the minimum wage to at least $15 per hour.
2. Increase the number of workers by welcoming any and all foreign nationals.
3. Increase the number of folks on government benefit programs such as food stamps which Nancy Pelosi assures us are a stimulation to the economy.
4. Increase regulations and taxes on business so the weak and unpatriotic will be driven out to other unenlightened states.
5. Reduce access to water to farming and agricultural businesses (except boutique wineries) as agriculture is not an economic driver of the future and there are fewer people engaged in this industry than are endangered species like frogs and snail darters.
5. Spend more money on bullet trains.
Of course, I have probably left out some really good Democratic programs that would enhance the economy, but no doubt this omission will be fixed by good progressives and I thank you in advance.« less
