DALLAS, Ore. The young homeless man who accompanied Miley Cyrus to the MTV Video Music Awards and who had been sought on an Oregon arrest warrant has turned himself in and posted bail.
The director of Polk County Community Corrections in the Willamette Valley community of Dallas, Ore., says 22-year-old Jesse Helt turned himself in Thursday, was booked on a probation violation warrant and then posted $2,500 bail.
Corrections Director Martin Silbernagel says Helt will be expected to appear before a judge in about two weeks.
Court records show that Helt pleaded guilty to misdemeanor criminal mischief and criminal trespass several years ago and was sentenced to 30 days in jail and probation. The arrest warrant was issued in November 2011 after he violated probation.
Records show he was arrested in 2010 and accused of breaking into the apartment of a man who had been selling what Helt believed to be bad marijuana.
Helt moved to Los Angeles and lived on the streets while trying to find work as a model.
He gained worldwide attention Sunday when Cyrus let him accept her award for video of the year.

Never ever try to guess the lowest standards limit on any celebrity of politician.
Good for him for turning himself in. Hopefully he has made a decision to try to turn his life around, and taking personal responsibility is a first step.
Since he turned himself in, I'm inclined to cut both him and Cyrus some slack. It's not like they're an item: she gave up her moment in the limelight to let him speak for a cause she herself supports. It's not surprising that a street kid has a criminal record, and taking responsibility for his actions is a step in the right direction.
Something about this never smelled right. He’s an able bodied 22 y/o man...
...why is he homeless?
In the span of a day, he could find a minimum wage job.
He’s just a clueless guy who does drugs and wants to be a model...and would rather be homeless than work. I don’t think he makes a good poster boy for homeless people.
The VMAs on MTV this year were as weird as ever.
The entire stage was a “666” - the mark of the devil!
To cap it off was Miley’s strange moment for video of the year.
Frankly I don’t think awards shows should be used to plug any personal causes but shouldn’t the night’s biggest winner at least come to the stage and address her fans?
The real news is that our “culture” has sunk so low that Miley Cyrus can win an award.
There was also the rich irony of Cyrus trying to plug a cause after “Wrecking Ball” (the sluttiest music video in a long time) was Video of the Year.
About a hundred 'tricks'.
This is the most positive use of these award shows I’ve ever seen.
“I am accepting this award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the United States who are starving, lost, and scared for their lives right now, Helt said. I know this because I am one of these people.”
It wasn’t his idea, Miley wasn’t on stage, and he didn’t ask for anything.
My comments aren’t about anybody’s history or character.
They’re about this single event.
He could be one of the people that JFK released when he closed the mental institutions, which over time and after many lawsuits to enforce his law, created our tragic "homeless" situation.
All the pics I found when I googled “VMA 666” only showed one 6. Or maybe a 9. Any pics?
how did this homeless guy pay bail?
some people can find something awful in just about any given thing.
I see a two-armed spiral. How is it a "666" stage? At best I see a "66" stage, or maybe a "69" stage. I can perhaps see why the MTV folks would like a "69" stage, but neither number actually has any spooky applications.
