Reporter: "I wanted to find out why many Alabamians make the important decision to carry a concealed weapon. Over three three weeks, I logged 1,400 miles traveling from Empire to New Market, from Mobile to Dothan, from Oxford to Heflin. In the end, 17 Alabamians posed for portraits and told me why."

She has had her concealed carry permit for two years.

I don’t know much about firearms and never felt the need to have one, but given how urbanites are going nuts, I’m looking into at least having one in the house.
Starting this year when I renewed back in February, was able to renew for FIVE years for Fifty Bucks! Madison County, AL.
You need at least three.
Bolt action rifle.
Pump shotgun.
Pistol or revolver.
Get them now.
Having grown up in Bama, I will say this...almost every newspaper in the state is on marginal operations, and making nothing near what they did in the 1980s.
I suspect that they’ve begun to ask themselves....who are our readers and why are they disenchanted with our reporting over the past two or three decades? Between crime, corruption, stupid political agendas, lack of stories about the homefront in Bama, and an overload on NCAA football stories....there’s just not much reason to buy a daily Bama paper.
Do yourself a favor take a basic pistol course or something similar. Well worth the time.
Nothing better than the smell of female pheromones and gunpowder. The more females that carry the better.
The Birmingham News seems to be going under. They have laid off so many people and had to move from their former building to a smaller one.
They have concentrated on NOT reporting on Obama’s stumbles. Local folks have to read the Daily Mail in the UK just to find out what the president is up to!
And they have made a conscious effort to put in heavy rotation, an almost wall to wall policy of “reporting” on homosexuality. If it’s gay, it plays.
And they use their Pulitzer winner to write almost exclusively about pets. He’s a stone cold liberal and his skills have gone down mightily in the past few years, but they best they can get from the guys is dog stories all the time?
For a while there, every time you opened up the paper it was cross-dressing, “my brother is gay and he’s normal,” and feature after feature on the Prancing Elites.
They are currently obsessed with the cross dresser from Alabama who is in “Orange is the New Black.” As if that’s the only person from Alabama who is doing anything worth reporting?
So this guy writing about open carry is a big deal.
A person from the Mobile Press-Register is now the director of state wide news, so she is driving the content in the Press-Register, Birmingham News & the Huntsville Times.
When the SHTF you will need more than one firearm and lots of ammo.
You forgot the AR-15.
You’ll get a boatload of recommendations as to what to buy, so I’ll toss in my two cents.
I bought a Mossberg 500, silver for home defense.
Relatively inexpensive.
Shotgun, so I don’t shoot my neighbor by accident.
Short barrel, easy to handle, swing, and aim in tight rooms.
The safety is located where it is natural to slide to off or on.
Silver rather than dark, so I can find it at night.
I keep it within reach, leaning against the corner, barrel down, stock up, with a shell in the chamber, safety on. If I want to give warning by racking it I can, I’m just releasing a shell. If time is short I can slide the safety and squeeze the trigger.
I’ll tell you why I carry. Because the guy my wife ran off with has threatened to put a bullet in my head. I have a court order against him, but what will that do?
And BTW, after swearing out a warrant on him the VA Commonwealth’s Attorney dropped the charges to “Profanity on the public airwaves,” a misdemeanor. He called the threat to me while I was at work on the Navy base. I should have gone to NCIS instead of local police.
Last time I checked....the Huntsville Times is now published only three times a week. How is the P-R and Birmingham paper doing?
I get the impression that they really can’t do a local story or investigative analysis anymore. At least NCAA football is coming up and they can fill half the paper with football nut commentary.
What would you do if someone broke into your house and found your gun? What happens when you walk in on him?
You might want to give an order of acquisition, and this is just my opinion:
20 guage pump shotgun - youth model if you have young or female people capable of using it,
common caliber handgun - revolver if you’re unfamiliar with firearm operation
.22 rifle
larger caliber rifle (SKS?)
“You forgot the AR-15.”
Thus the “at least three” qualifier. Black rifles may be too scary for a first time gun owner.
But I love mine!
Here in Montana, where over 95% of homes have firearms, the average number of firearms per household is 27. Not many are scared of black rifles around here.
