Texas Governor Rick Perry has reportedly aligned himself with two of the most infamous Republican establishment operatives known for trashing conservatives.
Perry is working with Henry Barbour, whom conservatives want the Republican National Committee to censure for his group's smearing of conservatives in the Mississippi Senate runoff, and Steve Schmidt, who has elevated his profile by maligning conservatives, especially former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.
Politico's Maggie Haberman reported on Tuesday that Schmidt, the infamous hack from Sen. John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign whose gamble to go "all-in" and suspend the campaign during the financial crisis turned up snake eyes, "has joined the team" helping Perry "with the strategy around his indictment." After McCain's poll numbers plummeted after Schmidt's reckless gamble, Schmidt attempted to re-write history and try to smear former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to the mainstream press and blame the 2008 loss on her.
Though that gambit did not work, Schmidt did endear himself to the permanent political class and media, and he soon joined the likes of Meghan McCain in gleefully bashing conservatives on mainstream and even liberal outlets like MSNBC. He also hid in the woods before inviting the New York Times to find him. Conservative scholar and talk radio host Mark Levin simply wondered, "Why would Perry hire this conservative-attacker and Palin-hater?"
If policy is personnel, as Reagan said and those like Morton Blackwell always emphasize, Perry should be concerned. As Breitbart News reported, top conservatives have called on the Republican National Committee to censure Barbour for his "role in racially incendiary appeals to Democratic voters that voting for Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS) was a means of helping stop the Tea Party."

“Knock the Dems. We’d like a Republican President.”
Speak for yourself. I’d like a conservative president.
You know, I don't particularly like those glasses on him, either, but he can't exactly find a pair of big goggle-like 1980s aviators. What Perry is wearing is what's available now.
it shows again that he does not have his mind where “freepers” or conservatives live. He is message driven not idea driven. Once again the things that brought him down TransTexas Corridor, injection of birth control for 12 year old girls.
Maybe Perry thinks this move will endear him to Sarah-haters.
I’m to the point of wishing him well against Travis Co, but that’s it. Next I expect his team to attack Cruz who just offered him support against his indictment.
I think Perry would make a good president not because of his intelligence, but because he would have real, smart conservatives in his cabinet. I don’t really he can tell the difference in a real conservative and a RINO. Don’t forget he was a democrat for years.
If Rick Perry has hired one of the Mississippi Barbours, your words are directed at the wrong people. Barbour was one of the people who decided he needed to win an election by excoriating a good conservative with phony charges of racism and by the use of election fraud. Those textbook democrat plays lose him any “republican” credibility he ever had. That Barbour has been hired causes me to wonder if Rick Perry even has a brain.
Barbour is an opportunist with an “r” next to his name sent to wreck havoc in the republican primary and to ensure the election of a liberal by having both parties nominate socialists. You can keep your stealth socialist democrats with “r’s” next to their name. But I will knock each and every one of them any day of the week.
Free Republic is for conservatives. Republicans, especially stealth establishment socialists, can go pound sand.
Who will he call on next, Karl Rove?
Schmidt is one of the top destroyers of Conservatives.
He supports the GOPe types and uses underhanded tactics to do so.
Worked for McCain, and then Romney took him on to ensure his loss to The First Black President.
(Can you imagine how racist it would have been for a Republican to beat Obama out of a second term??)
But of course both of those GOP candidates ran to allow Obama to win.
If Perry continues to use him, he will be like a kiss of (political) death.
That's total BS. Go to any decent optical shop and you will find a wide variety of frames from the thick wanabe hipster glasses that Perry is now wearing to nearly invisible rimless styles. Here's an example of what's available: http://www.viziooptic.com/mens-designer-eyeglasses
Again, leaders lead, followers follow. When it comes to eye glasses, Perry is a follower. I fear that Perry as POTUS would also be a follower in that rather than taking a principled stand, he would follow the advice of Barbour, Rove, et al., and blow the best opportunity for conservative change since Maximus Reagan.
Yes, I copied and pasted your link and saw quite a few styles available there.
Who knows, maybe his wife picked his frames out. Or maybe not. Either way, they’re not very attractive, but I’m not going to assign some kind of higher meaning to them.
Perfect.
Steve Schmidt is not only a lefty he is also a knothead and a chronic loser...all one has to do is catch one of his frequent (and stultifying) appearances on Maddow, Chris Hayes or Morning Joe to realize he is truly in his moronic element there.
If he hired that Barbour motorcycle gang out of Mississippi and Schmidt he is either a true liberal at heart, wants to lose or has trouble identifying the enemy. Perry can do better, he needs to trust his Texas people, don’t start a run for the White House with this GOPE infestation, he will regret it.
The GOPE leaves a trail of wreckage, low life gutter disgust and disaster everywhere it goes. The GOPE/RNC should be treated like people from the government, “we are from the GOPE/RNC(government) and we are here to help”. Run for the hills!!!
Don’t forget, Reagan was a Democrat for years.
Reagan was a conservative for years before he became democrat. Let me put it this way. I think the only state that Perry could be governor of is Texas. The reason? The governor has very little power. Hard for him to screw up much. If Perry surrounds himself with good people, like Greg Abbott, he’s very effective. I think if he became president that’s exactly what he would do. I also think he’s a rocket scientist compared to Obama, who I consider just another gangbanger that happens to be good at reading a teleprompter.
I will not knowingly vote for anyone that has this guy or Nicole Wallace on his staff.
I was on the Rick Perry bandwagon, I'm off the Rick Perry bandwagon.
Schmidt attacking Palin in case you missed it, well, TEA in general.
