Should have been 'worst' instead of 'worse'.
And that pic isn't of me. My beard is almost white, and the paper was "El Mundo".
Just sayin....

In about 2007, flying from Europe to the US, between Iceland and the US, I saw a huge red-yellow glowing object in the ocean from at least 30,000 ft. Never knew what it was. In 1968 I was flying over the Pacific Ocean (no airplane mind you) and saw these like wild shooting colored auras.

I think the ship was the aircraft carrier Franklin D Roosevelt.

Thing is, it seems that the ocean in this area to too deep to allow such a splendid display originating from the seabed. But I will keep your comment in mind, thanks.

I was deployed to the Western Pacific with the US Third Fleet in 1981 when the guys in CIC tracked multiple objects over the Pacific for 12 hours - objects were moving at an estimated Mach 9 and above - converging into one object, splitting off again, making right angle turns at unbelievable speeds, diving, climbing - something was out there that night.

Meant to say this guy was not the host or the guest, was just a caller.

Krakatoa, East of JavaAn almost acceptable movie, though it didn't do the disaster justice. And the title always bugged me. Krakatoa is west of Java.

Any actual volcanic activity should result in a huge plume of smoke and steam, easily visible to planes within 150 miles or more during daytime.

If he was on the flightdeck and had a ledge to place the camera I suppose it’s possible. It would need to be the equivalent of a tripod.
