Thousands of drivers in New Jersey were caught on camera allegedly running red lights but were never informed of the potential fines they faced because of a technical glitch.
And the state Judiciary has asked local courts to throw out all 17,000 alleged infractions.
The state lawmaker who today brought the issue to the publics attention Assemblyman Declan OScanlon said it's is just the latest example of why New Jerseys red light camera should not be renewed when it reaches its December expiration date.

The news of the glitch comes just days after the former CEO of Redflex New Jerseys other red light camera operator was indicted on federal corruption charges for allegedly bribing Chicago officials to help the company win contracts in the city. That came months after a fired executive from the Phoenix-based company claimed that the company paid bribes and gave gifts to government officials in 13 states including New Jersey.
State Sen. Michael Doherty (R-Warren) on Wednesday called for the state Attorney General to investigate whether the company bribed any New Jersey officials.

Ping!
Sioux City IA is the worst. They target people of the interstate and mainly tourists.
On a visit home to see my parents, I noted in Alpha (Warren County)at the intersection on Route 22 just off of I-78, a strobe going off... It was alarming... like a grenade or flashbag went off with no sound... had no clue what it was... then it dawned on me... California had arrived in NJ.
tickets should be handed out personally. not mailed.
with today’s tech, anyone could be shown driving thru a ‘red’ light with no recourse
“.. then it dawned on me... California had arrived in NJ.”
Well, There aren’t any red light cameras where I live here in CA. Our town tried them for about 6 months and the citizens demanded that they be removed. that was nearly twenty years ago! I am sorry that your folks have to live in NJ. It makes CA look like a Sunday School class. Glad I am retired and don’t have to go there on business any longer. BTW, just love the State Troopers Hats there, Hitler would be proud.
the logic of using red light cameras would say you could put them all along the roadway and use them to ticket people talking on their cell phone when driving, and other motor vehicle infractions
where does it stop
in the U.K. there has been no end
in some U.K. cities you are on CCTV cameras from the time you walk out your home’s door to when you enter your place of work, and in reverse at the end of the day
is the invasion of your Liberty worth it
With your head in a rat cage.
Nor in my town in California. And because I avoid big cities like the plague, I have never seen a red light camera in my life
“I have never seen a red light camera in my life.”

Me neither. I live in Maine and, so far, I’ve never seen one here.
I’m in Hackettstown...didn’t realize they made it out this way. I work in Newark and they’re all over there. Booker’s gift to the city. They’ve got drug deals all along Market Street that they could care less about, but come close on a light and they want their money...

I ski Mammoth Mtn whenever I get the chance. You lucky dog, you live right there! As for the RLC’s and the poster trying somehow to equate NJ with CA, good luck with that. At least here it isn’t a crime to have a gun in your car. Moreover, I’m betting that your sheriff will issue you a CCW in either Inyo or Mono counties, unlike all of NJ where gun ownership is a capital crime! Can’t imagine living in a place like Newark w/o a gun. Actually, I can’t imagine living in Newark, period.
In the U.K. they also set traffic cameras on fire. Nobody is all bad.

The history of the NJSP is fascinating to me... and I am certainly no boot licker. It is worth checking out.
“Redflex” got kicked out of their home state of AZ! (Speed cameras). http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2010/07/16/20100716arizona-turns-off-speed-cameras.html and Redflex CEO recently indicted: http://chicagotonight.wttw.com/2014/08/13/former-redflex-ceo-liaison-chicago-official-indicted-alleged-corruption
Until they were ordered to stand down a few years back because of “profiling”, the NJ State Police was one of the best outfits in the country. Still very professional, though now loading up with unqualified tokens to re-distribute wealth.
And from this point forward, all tickets will be sent via certified mail.
You bet!
