The following statement was released by Keith Kelleher, president of SEIU Healthcare Illinois, Indiana, Missouri & Kansas, in response to the shooting of Ferguson, MO, resident Michael Brown and the unrest that is occurring there:
The aftermath of the tragic shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, reveals the urgent need for justice to prevail in order to bring a level of calm back to the community. The initial lack of information coming from the Ferguson Police Department and its militarized response to protesters has clearly erased any faith in local authorities to uncover the truth.
To that end, the members of SEIU Healthcare Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and Kansas call on Governor Jay Nixon to do everything in his authority to de-escalate the militarized atmosphere in Ferguson and allow residents to practice their 1st Amendment right to peaceful assembly and protest.
Additionally, we call on the governor to appoint an independent investigator to work along with the FBI and U.S. Department of Justice, who also have been called in to investigate.
Michael Brown was shot six times while unarmed. Some accounts indicate that his hands were raised in the air when shot. The community demands that someone be held accountable for this abuse of force.
We express our heartfelt sympathy to the family of Michael Brown and call on Gov. Nixon to move swiftly and with transparency to review the facts, inform the community and bring charges wherever the investigation shows that there was misconduct.
We also believe that it is only when people of good will unite and organize for racial and economic justice that incidents like this will cease to occur.
Last night was the first time they were doing what they SHOULD have been doing all along.
Flood the area with uniforms, let the locals vent, and crack heads on the looters, troublemakers.
If they had done this, instead of the militarized over-response after the original problems, we wouldn’t be where we are today.
Two People with one holding a sign in support of Officer Wilson was surrounded by protesters at about 8:15pm. Police moved in and helped the 2 people and they left the area. It is unknown if the 2 people were injured. (Per local media Fox2)
Storm is moving through fast and is almost over. It is heading east.

I disagree. If they hadn’t done exactly what they did each day, many people would have been injured and it would have gone completely out of control.
The DOGS worked. Kept the crowd and cops from coming in physical contact.
The SOUND CANNONS worked. It shut people up and made them back away. If not , they had a line of people that kept moving forward and their intention was to make physical contact and force the cops to hurt or kill someone. Anyone. They didn’t care. They are prepared to be Martyrs. And they want it LIVE on TV.
The TEAR GAS worked. The SMOKE BOMBS worked.
Later in the week, as more of the unsavory crowd came in from out of town , they resorted to spotting and nabbing just the extremists.
THAT WORKED.
Everything worked and very very few were injured. Pretty good for a WEEK+ Protest/riot/looting affair.
Should be hotter tonight once the Powell shooting video gets the MSM spin, “Another senseless killing!!! Black people have bounties on them like in THE PURGE!!!!”
STLnative, any local viewpoint or opinion that can share regarding shooting yesterday of shoplifter that was filmed inside store and outside store regarding mood of community in St. Louis?

Eyewitness accounts make plain that:
1) Michael Brown profaned a police officer who at first simply asked him get out of th middle of the street.
2) Micael Brown refused to get out of the middle of the street.
3) Michael Brown assaulted the police officer when he returned to question Brown, striking him several times in the face
4) Michael Brown ran from the police car after assaulting the officer.
5) Michael Brown turned around and taunted the police officer when he was told to stop.
6) Michael Brown charged the police officer.
7) Michael Brown was killed by gunfire from the police officer.
The police incident report agrees with this sequence of events.
Conversation from two bystanders discussing what happened on a YouTube video agrees with this sequence of events.
The medical report on the officer indicates he was severely beaten about the face and head...beaten almost unconscious...and sustained a fractured orbital bone to his left eye.
Michael Brown was a large, very powerfully built and strong young man who was also a violent criminal and thug.
This officer was heroic in his actions.
After significant injury to himself, and at moral peril to himself, he confronted a violent criminal and attempted to do his duty and apprehend the criminal. He then had to defend his life against the criminal and shoot him.
