"Running the ladder" is sometimes, tactically, an LDE (last ditch effort) in getting rounds downrange as you clear the holster, hoping to connect before your front site is lined up with your eye and supporting hand. NOTE: practicing one-hand running the ladder is a good way to shoot your leg and supporting hand!
