On race, America has far to go. Ferguson won't be the last flash point

“Later still, the local police chief was removed as primary responder, but he still managed to muddy the waters (which the Brown family calls character assassination) by first releasing video of a black robber and then admitting it had nothing to do with Brown’s shooting.”

It had a great deal to do with the shooting, as every sane person knows.

“He [Obama] could have tackled the unacceptable level and variety of unwarranted stops, searches and frisking of black men in particular. For bonus points, he could have gotten into black incarceration rates or, as author Michelle Alexander puts it, the “New Jim Crow”.”

He could have also pointed out the gross disparity in crime rates, with roughly 3% of the population (black men between 15 & 40) committing nearly half of all murders - and 90% of the time, against other blacks.

“In any case, shoplifting is not supposed to be punishable by death.”

No one shot him over stealing. He was shot while attacking a police officer, or at worst, immediately afterward by the man he tried to kill.

But then, the real racism in America is the liberal refusal to discuss race honestly. If a cop ever shoots a [white / Asian] guy dead, do you think either either community will burn buildings and rob stores? Do you think the President will launch a racial discrimination case and send 40 FBI agents, or order a new autopsy?

The real racism in America is refusing the face the failure of blacks to police their own, starting with marrying a man before having kids by him.

She missed the MD of the late 50s and early 60s. Then the riots came (guess who brought that) and Cambridge, MD was burned by the usual suspects, so if there was a 'color' curtain up the road in Balmur, well, just maybe there was a reason--and just maybe there was a specific group of people who brought that hostility down on themselves and those who looked superficially like them.

Now, for extra credit, guess what? History is repeating itself. The progress made socially is being rapidly eroded by grievance pimps and hucksters who cry 'racism' rather than admit that some of the people who look like them (superficially) are bad people or do bad things and will suffer the consequences of their acts. Failure to recognize that is a sort of 'racism', too, and I have never seen that fostered like I have during this administration.

The folks who don't look like you are sick sh*tless of being blamed for the shortcomings of your community, are tired of being hunted on the streets they pay for, are pissed that their children have to work twice as hard to get an opening in a college--which they have to PAY for, while set-asides and scholarships (and even jobs) are reserved for someone with more melanin.

I know I'm done feeling guilty, if I ever did. I have given anyone the same basic respect due any human being in my life, and where you go from there is up to you.

Throw cherry picked social situations at me from a limited experience base (I'm a great-grandfather) and I'll spit the pits back at you.

Somebody 6'6" and nearly 300 lbs comes charging down on your a$$ saying 'I'm gonna f*** you up!', you'd bust some caps in the SOB, too--and the last thing you'd care about is what color they are.

it represents a specific type of racialisation. This is of the majority black city, big or small, with a white economic and political power structure.

The author complains about segregation but her solution seems to be a call for segregation of communities into 'black' and 'white' communities. And, discrimination against hiring whites in black communities. Should the 30% white citizens move out, too?? We want black mayors but we want white 'economic structure' to pay our way?

What about 30 years from now when Ferguson has slowly shifted again to an Asian or Israeli or Hispanic population? Can the new population 'remove' the blacks? Has anyone told this galpal that she lives in an Anglo-Saxon nation that celebrates diversity?

some people

And we thought Obizzmal had the race answer. This is a business inspired, encouraged, controlled and nurtured by the media, the rat machine and the black planation owners put in position to control thier black slaves. Social justice will be used to defend comitting crimes against America

Oh, God.

Imagine a world without sniveling, whining minorities.

I know it can’t happen, but just imagine.

As long as there are race baiters, there will be racism.

Obama is doing the same thing he did in Kenya in 2006.

This is just the beginning.

The administration is looking for a civil upheaval. They want it so bad they can taste it. Civil war equals martial law and suspension of the constitution. They salivate over the prospect. Let no opportunity go to waste. These people are so evil they make the Muzzies in Iraq look like boy scouts. This will not end well.

The only flash points will be from armed citizens firearms if these crooks venture outside of the ghetto thinking that they will be able to loot and riot outside of the hood.

People like Farai Chideya don't realize the extent to which they're playing with fire here. The behavior in the inner cities is pretty much tolerated by the vast majority of America, and her opinions are almost universally ignored outside of the Liberal elites they're aimed at and Conservative sites where they're dissected, taken for what they are, and dismissed.

From that they falsely assume that silence=assent. It's not. It's just that for the vast majority of Americans, those outside the inner cities, distance=apathy. Have the situation start spreading out into the suburbs, exurbs and rural areas and touching people personally, and 1.) there's going to be a brutal reaction and 2.) she and her fellow Liberals are going to find out, again brutally, just how little most Americans give a flying f**k about any opinion she happens to hold and feels entitle to convey.

No, lets not write about how far America has to go. America is already doing way too much. America is already paying for your food stamps, and your flat screen TV. America is already got preferences for you for everything - college admissions, scholarships, jobs e.t.c.

Lets write an article about maybe how you should pull up your pants, go to school regularly, study very hard and get a useful education. Don't get a degree in air hockey or sociology or journalism. Go for something challenging like engineering or computer science. Avail yourself to what America is already offering you.

Lets continue the article about acting like a responsible, dignified person. Being poor or past racial injustice is no excuse for being a thug/criminal. There are millions of poor people around the world. They don't sit on their rear ends feeling entitled, and going around being a thug. Respect has to be earned. Preceptions are changed when you change them yourself. You cannot force new preceptions on other people. Looting and pillaging is not the way to earn respect whether it is done in your own neighborhood or someone else's.

The rest of America is already paying for a lot of free stuff. For once they would like to save a bit of money for their own children. After all, scholarships are not readily available to them. They would like to send their children who have worked very hard and earned great grades to a good college, but college seats are limited for them. Yet they don't perpetually whine or go on a rampage. They just work very hard and do the best they can.

Should’ve picked our own damn cotton.

...or at least paid someone a modest wage to do so...but no, had to import a Stone Age culture and then prevent them from assimilating, so as to be an economic burden for centuries to come...

I agree that it won't end well. But I also think that those looking to use (if not drum up) civil upheaval as the rationale for imposition of martial law/suspension of the Constitution are going to be darn surprised when it doesn't go the way they planned.

I just don't see police forces going for it outside of limited geographic areas (inner cities) and for limited/temporary circumstances (like the hunt for the Boston bombers). You start moving out of the inner cities, and into the rural areas and you'll increasingly run into situations where the cops who will be expected to implement it are fishing/hunting/drinking buddies of a lot of the folks they're told to implement it against.
