This pattern of "lawfare" by 'Rats against political opponents is nothing new. It's been going on as far back as the Franklin D. Roosevelt administration (victims included Philadelphia Inquirer publisher Moses Annenberg and former Treasury Secretary Andrew Mellon) , and probably long before that as well. The target need not be a high political officeholder or office seeker. (e.g., Linda Tripp), nor is criminal indictment and prosecution the only method used; sometimes it is executive branch action against the opposition (e.g., current IRS scandal) or fixing the outcome of a civil case against the enemy, And it can occur at federal, state, county, or local levels, all around the country, sometimes more than one level involved at the same time.

So while all these tactics are odious, they are not a modern-day phenomenon, contrary to what the author of the posted article seems to be saying. The only cure for these quasi-legal atrocities is telling the truth and exposing the tyrants for what they are.

Harming a person’s reputation for political purposes should require time in prison.

Indeed, most rat tactics are nothing new, including unconstitutional use of executive orders (FDR again).
