Iraqi Forces Take Back Ramadi

The deputy chief of Anbar’s Provincial Council said Iraqi forces are in control of Ramadi and most foreign fighters have retreated from their positions.

Fasil Esaw, deputy chief for Anbar’s Provincial Council, told Rudaw, “According to information we have obtained, all non-Iraqi ISIS members that were fighting the Iraqi security forces have withdrawn from their bases, and have left Iraq through the Syrian border.”

He added, “The city of Ramadi is under the control of the security forces and the situation is safe and calm.”

He said Tamim, Hamziya and Abussiya areas of Anbar province are still under IS control, and “clashes between the security forces and IS (fighters) are continuing in these areas.”

The reported retreated by Islamic State (IS/formerly known as ISIS) militants came after the governor of Anbar province, Ahmed Khalaf al-Dulaimi, told Reuters on Thursday that the US military had promised to provide air support and intelligence sharing to stop IS advances in Anbar.

IS has declared the establishment of an Islamic state after seizing Iraq’s second largest city of Mosul in June. Sunni insurgents have controlled large areas of Anbar province since earlier this year.

The Muslim Arabs...boy these animals love to fight, kill or be killed. They have nothing better to do with their time & lives except deal with despair and death. What a swell bunch of guys.

T.E. Lawrence (Arab Revolt, 1917) loved them, fought with them, led them and said, (as shown in 1962 film) of them:

So long as the Arabs fight tribe against tribe, so long will they be a little people, a silly people - greedy, barbarous, and cruel, as you are. (referring to Omar Shariff).

Great news. Looks like IS overextended itself. Time to seek them out and wipe them out.

IS is just a brand, a name that has changed 3 times in 2 months. If we really want to eradicate IS we should ensure we’ll never ever hear about another ‘group’ under a different Islamic name causing excitement & genocide in Iraq or elsewhere.

IS-lam << very good deduction. While every bit of victory is tremendously good, winning a battle is not winning a war. Seriously, a lot of people have died & put their lives at great risk (behind the scenes too) to get us where we’re at at this very point. Only progress from now on..

THe IS logo sort of looks like a 45 record. Makes me think it’s really an ad for American Bandstand.

Hopefully the progress isn’t just a temporary deal. Could also be that ISIS is not stupid enough to expend its resources and decided to retreat, regroup, and plan for action in areas where there is no strong unification of forces against them. How long did it take before there was any real resistance - they accomplished a lot of “mischief” with little resistance and opted to forgo serious losses.

Amazing the difference a thousand US Troops make when backed up by US Naval air power.

I just wish that as they retreat they would be captured and killed for the crimes they’ve committed and the crimes they will continue to commit.

Yes the US has deployed over 1,000 (”non-combat”) troops in the last few months. Mostly US Marines and US Army Special Forces.
