Many social conservatives say they feel politically isolated as the country seems to be hurtling to the left, with marijuana now legal in Colorado and gay marriage gaining ground across the nation. They feel out of place in a GOP increasingly dominated by tea party activists and libertarians who prefer to focus on taxes and the role of government and often disagree with social conservatives on drugs or gay rights.

I liked Ted Cruz, I don’t know what the headline is about
A lot of times these leftist groups, like the eco-nuts, file a suit against the government and the bureaucrats settle or lose on purpose, $$$$ another way the government funds the left. Not just grants.
Agreed. And I think you’ll find the overwhelming majority of socons are also fiscally conservative.
But fiscally conservative but socially liberal people are called Libertarians, not conservatives.
They are living in a world of make believe if they think it is possible for a socially liberal society to be fiscally conservative.....Someone else ALWAYS has to pay for others' irresponsibility.
Fiscal conservatism leads to social conservatism.
If you REFUSE to fund irresponsibility, by de-funding the welfare state, young women discover that having kids out of wedlock makes it very hard to survive (something our ancestors knew well, which is WHY marriage was made into a social institution). What the Welfare State did was to fund irresponsibility, and thus make socially destructive behaviors viable.
If women suddenly need a husband, a STABLE husband with a decent job, to make it through life, they are more likely to get married.
If men suddenly discover that they need to be stable and employed in order to get laid, then they will strive to become employable. Including actually paying attention in school, and staying out of trouble, in order to avoid a criminal record which might hamper their employment prospects.
If mothers suddenly discover that Uncle Sugar won't be there, and they may need to depend on their kids to help them in their old age, then they will pay more attention to raising their kids well.
Social conservatism flows naturally from fiscal conservatism, once fiscal conservatism is allowed to cut government programs which enabled bad behavior. Attempts to impose social conservatism on a society which funds irresponsibility is doomed to fail.
The press is trying to ignore the existence of Ted Cruz.
Who said anything about an attempt to impose? What I’m saying is that conservatism flows from the social.
The Libertarian argument has always been, as you note, that fiscal policy should drive social change. But the kind of change many Libertarians support does not mesh with socially conservative principles.
As such, “do it my way and your way will come later” doesn’t appeal. Social conservatism first. Everything else flows from it.
Cool. One of the big problems in our society is the persistent underclass. You have women having kids out of wedlock. Their sons engage in crime, because being perceived as tough and having cash gets them laid.
My solution, as detailed in my prior post, is to remove the government-funded financial underpinnings that enable the life style.
What is your plan?
GOP how about paying attention to one issue:
BRING BACK JOBS TO AMERICA.
Stop all of this other stuff. What matters to America is our economy. Nobody is looking out for the American economy right now.
Nobody.
Democrats have all sent jobs to China. The GOP has all sent jobs to China.
Everyone is sending American jobs overseas, and have been doing now for nearly 5 administrations.
EVERYONE.
Someone needs to reverse this, and to bring back American jobs.
I really, really, really hope that party is the GOP.
Wake the heck up GOP. Americans need jobs.
Jobs.
Let's say the Dems and Repubs propose a "grand compromise" Constitutional amendment: It will outlaw abortion and porn, in exchange for a major expansion of the welfare state.
Do you support or oppose it?
I've posed similar questions over the years. Generally, SoCons refuse to answer. My answer: oppose.
You keep saying this, without a plan.
Here's my fiscally-conservative plan: de-fund OSHA, NLRB. Gut EPA (state EPAs can handle things, balancing environment versus the desire to attract employers). Cut corporate taxes. Remove the federal regs that make it unattractive to run a company in the US.
What's your plan. Stop spamming with platitudes. WHAT is your PLAN?
If there is no voter ID, then why bother voting? I don’t want to vote against felons, non citizens, dead democrats, or democrats who get multiple votes. If the Republicans can’t even make that point and always cave to the race card, why support them?
I for one say if the elites can't see the social Christians of the expansive base as an equal partner then the heck with the Republican party. They cannot win any Presidential election without us so quit treating us like bastard step children. Others like myself I can easily vote for the third guy on the ticket and bypass the two top parties as I have done for several years now. So go ahead RINO's keep doing it your way but get used to being out of power for some time to come.
Huh?! What tripe.
But fiscally conservative but socially liberal people are called Libertarians, not conservatives.
Agreed.
We need to stay UNITED this year and in 2016, but I doubt we will. I hope I’m wrong.
Is God telling you to support the Democrats?
Oppose.
A little evil grows and grows and grows. Which is how we got where we are.
Moral delemas do not make your position stronger.
