If you’ve been watching cable news, reading Hollywood celebrities’ tweets, and listening to race-hustling opportunists, you might think that every police officer in America has a finger on the trigger, hunting for any excuse to gun down defenseless youths.
This hysterical nonsense must be stopped.
The Cirque du Cop-Bashing, with Al Sharpton as ringmaster, is working overtime to exploit the deadly incident in Ferguson, Mo. That means stoking anti–law enforcement fires at all costs.
Are there bad cops? Yes. Does the police state go overboard sometimes? Yes. Do the demagogues decrying systemic racism and braying about “assassinations” know what happened when teenager Mike Brown was tragically shot and killed last week? No.
Here’s a reality check. While narcissistic liberal journalists and college kids are all posting “hands up” selfies in hipster solidarity with Ferguson protesters, it’s law-enforcement officers who risk their lives in “war zones” every day across the country.
The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) reports that a total of 1,501 law-enforcement officers died in the line of duty during the past ten years, an average of one death every 58 hours, or 150 per year. These include local and state police officers, federal officers, correctional officers, and military law-enforcement officers.
Fact: Last year, 100 law-enforcement officers were killed. On average, over the past decade, there have been 58,261 assaults against law enforcement each year, resulting in 15,658 injuries.
Fact: New York City has lost more officers in the line of duty than any other department, with 697 deaths. Texas has lost 1,675 officers, more than any other state.
Just this week, NLEOMF released preliminary fatality statistics from August 2013 to August 2014. Total fatalities are up 14 percent, from 63 last year to 72 this year.

I have learned by experience not to call the police.
I too have an Uncle am extremely proud of. He worked his way up from the Patrolman position to become Chief of Detectives. Loved Him! I will admit to also having seen a bit of change in my area but I am from the Hornet’s Nest. Was Born and Raised in the Hornet’s Nest. Am proud of LE in my neck of the woods. They do a difficult job and the majority of LE in this neck of the wood are still Great Guys. The neck of the woods I live in has been fortunate. I pray the same for the rest of this nation. May God Make It So.
I call only when necessary ... Suspicious activity, BOLO (if see something) etc.
“Is Killed” does not equal “Killed by bad guy”.
Most are killed in auto accidents.

In 2012 the FBI reports: “47 law enforcement officers were feloniously killed in the line of duty in 2012. Offenders used firearms in 43 of the 47 felonious deaths.”
Fact:
Last year, 30 cops were killed ‘in the line of duty’.
300+ citizens were killed by cops.
Imagine just as many or more were killed by CCW. Am a Huge Fan of CCW. Open carry, Like that too!
If airliners had ejection seats so the union pilots could punch out when they felt threatened there would be a lot more dead passengers.
By the way, any time you have a large population there will be suicides. The common rate for males is about 20 per 100,000.

You said many were advocating that cops not wear soft body armor, and I asked you who was advocating it.

The headline said killed - it did not say murdered.
And, 58 hours converting to 2.5 days, not 4.5 days, is plain math.

With the discovery of pictures that showed there was a robbery that went on before MB got shot to death, this will most likely to become an open and shut case.
In regards to the police getting military equipment, that has to STOP.
In regards to the conservative talkradio show hosts, could it just be that they know who the LO officers that are doing all the right things and are getting besmirched by the rouge LO officers?
There is a certain isolation from reality for the conservative media folks - Rush has stayed amazingly in touch with reality - but many have not, and even Rush will miss it sometimes. I really think their listenership / readership / viewers are ahead of them on this.
I know that I no longer give cops the benefit of the doubt when things like this come up. All my life, until recently, I did. I suspect a lot of other Freepers are the same way.

Left wing sites being posted all the time, cop haters repeating the same as Sharpton, Huff post, hell even on another thread the same people are trying to say that he did not deserve to be shot because of his size and the cop never knew if he robbed the store.
Well yea , but there is a thing called a BOLO and updates as events occur , plus cops always ask maybe witnesses and suspects in the area.
I swear make all drugs legal marry anything, disarm law enforcement . It’s like DU sometimes , but those posters know who they are as we do.
