According to a report in the Washington Post, the Pentagon signaled on Tuesday that it is considering to send its largest ever shipment of Hellfire missiles to Iraq as the government there hunkers down for a prolonged battle against radical Islamic terrorists who have asserted control over hundreds of square miles of territory across western and northern parts of the country. Pentagon officials disclosed that the State Department has approved the possible sale of 5,000 AGM-114K/N/R missiles and related parts and training. The estimated cost of the transaction would be approximately $700 million, and it would be much larger than previous shipments of Hellfire missiles to Iraq.
The move is not considered surprising, as it was reported at the beginning of July that State Department officials had informed lawmakers that the Obama administration wanted to send at least 4,000 more Hellfire missiles to Iraq.
The Iraqi military used up its inventory of about 300 Hellfire missiles in June as ISIS forces seized territory in numerous parts of the country. Rear Adm. John Kirby, the Pentagon press secretary, stated last month that the United States would ship approximately 800 more of the missiles by the end of July. The missiles are deployed from several different aircraft, including the Iraqi air forces AC-208 Cessna Caravan.
but not to Israel?
What better way to get them into the hands of the Islamists?
So, if the hellfires we send are used against us is it still considered friendly fire? I mean if we’re sending them.......... Stupider and stupider.
Didn’t we quit making Hellfire’s?
“but not to Israel?”
Having worked for the American division of a big Israeli defense company, Tadiran, I can attest that there is not one weapon we have that they don’t have, sometimes in an improved version. The only reason they get weapons from the US is they’re free. (They’re really not for the countries that get them so much as they are for the companies that sell them. It’s welfare for arms makers.)
The Current FReepathon Pays For The Current Quarter's Expenses?
What could go wrong with that?
BTW, how many humvees and howitzers are we sending
Hamas is going to have fun firing these at Israel!
How come EVERY DETAIL of our actions in Iraq are broadcast to the world, updates every minute it seems.. YET WE GET NOTHING ON THE IRS INVESTIGATION, ILLEGAL OBAMACARE LAW CHANGES, FAST & FURIOUS DOCUMENTS, BENGHAZI WITNESS TESTIMONY, NSA OVERREACHES, LOST EMAILS ACROSS ALL AGENCIES, U.S. MARINE IN MEXICAN JAIL, BLAH BLAH BLAH...
Obama blocking missile shipment for Israel
Exactamundo. WTF territory we’re in......
Guess there's none left for Israel.
You may be thinking of Tomahawks. I’m not sure we’ve actually stopped producing those, just floated a trial balloon a while back that we were going to.
Yes. And Tomahawks. The President says we don’t need them any more.
“Obama blocking missile shipment for Israel”
I have no doubt that Obama is doing that. The point is, it won’t hurt Israel even a tiny bit. Even when a foreign (FMS) contract went bad because of an overthrow or sudden bad blood, the company (mine) still got paid. The weapons were foisted off, in my case, on the US Army. As a matter of fact, the contract was usually through the US military for just this reason.
We stopped Hellfires too. A-10 too. These weapons were way too effective. Obama believes wars should be proportionate.
That’s a great question. Perhaps it’s those intensely loyal Muslim Brotherhood officials in the Dep’t of Homeland Security.
